Went threw it all again.
Went threw it all again.
Hi everyone.
It's been awhile since my last post. As I said it that Id get my partner a new specialist, and I did. I should be flushing money. Another sleep study and another appointment. But I've got results, the sleep study report and a script.
Unlike the last specialist, this one handed over results and diagnosed him with severe sleep apnoea. He is on a trial machine Phillips auto with pressure between 6-20.
So is there anyone out there who will have some patience with me to help me understand his results and help advise me on machines because I'm not buying here in Australia, I'll go to the states.
Cheers
Ally.

Yes Ally, go ahead and post the sleep study results (white out any personal i.d. info). And ask whatever questions you have about it.

Re: Went threw it all again.
I've sent you a pm
This is so overwhelming I feel like my brain is going to explode. Im the one that deals with all of this type of thing because my partner is dyslexic. I was just able to speak to him on his lunch break. He was given a machine to trial for a month before going back to the specialist and just told me he woke up multiple times last night due to leakage. He did say it is still the best sleep he has had in a very long time.

Re: Went threw it all again.
Ally, the basics to get you started:
He does have very severe OSA. His AHI of 97.8 means that he had an average of 97-98 apnea events per hour of sleep . He had some fairly long duration apnea events (average was 25.2 seconds), and he spent almost half of his sleep time (49.4%) with his blood oxygen level below 90%. Very much not good. The second page notes that he had 86 arousals per hour, mostly associated with the apnea events. That's 86 times per hour (or roughly every 42 seconds!) where he was getting pulled from deeper stages of sleep into lighter ones. Little micro-awakenings. In fact the report says that he had no deep (slow wave) sleep -- that's the restorative stage of sleep so vitally important to good health.
It's so great that he can say he slept pretty well this early on in the process. I'm imagining some life-changing improvements for him as his therapy gets underway and he gets stabilized on the right machine pressure(s).
If you and your partner are interested to see what's happening with the loaner machine (he's undoubtedly on an APAP), we can help you with how to access that information. Let us know the make and model of the machine. Given the severity of his untreated apnea you might both find it fascinating to look at some of the data that the machine is recording.

Re: Went threw it all again.
No wonder he had a good sleep. That poor guy's a wreck without a machine.
