Is anybody familiar with RESmart™ Auto CPAP Machine with RES

Post by Badger47 » Tue Jul 07, 2015 6:36 pm

I'm in the market for an economical Auto PAP machine. Two actually, since wife just got diagnosed too. She came across this model on CPAP.com and likes it. I'm just curious if anybody on the forum uses this model and can give me their opinions on it. I've read the reviews on cpap.com, but since there are only five I waned to see if there are any other opinions.

It's excellent for the price. It is data capable, and I have no complaints with it. The only downside I've found is that it's not compatible with SleepyHead, but data, especially with the SD card and card reader, is quite sufficient for most purposes.

If you want to spend more you will get more, but I've found it quite adequate.

I chose to switch the mode over to straight CPAP. This is just one of the display tables/graphs- a daily chart:

June 6 data, where I expanded the view:

It also summarizes data with graphs for any period of time one chooses. For this period of time, the setting was Auto 9-15cm:

Most experienced users on this forum would recommend that you only consider fully data-capable machines that are fully supported by the wonderful free SleepyHead software as this will allow you to monitor your progress and provide the graphs needed if you ever need help from forum members with your therapy. This is an important decision as you'll probably be living with whatever you buy for the next 5 years at least.

It's a pretty short list:
Philips Respironics System One (450P models and above, lesser model numbers are not data capable!)
ResMed S9 families (Not the Escape models, as they are not data capable), plus AirSense 10 support as of 0.9.8!

Please also read this thread from a couple of weeks ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=106282&p=1009204&hi ... t#p1008910

There are also often used machines with low hours available from long-time forum members and there are also used machines available from secondwindcpap.com. For new machines, the best prices are usually found on our sponsor's site cpap.com.

TedBurnsIII,

How do you get all that data from your RESmart? I use i-Code and get only the barest of information (none of the screens you posted), basically near useless.

OP,

Other than the lack of data (unlike Ted's), and its size (not going to be travel friendly), the machine has worked fine for me since I started using it April 2, 2015. I am seriously considering replacing it for a full data capable machine (and live with its large size), but if I can get the data like Ted has I probably will keep it.

@TedBurnsIII

Where do you get that level of data from this machine? That is my biggest concern, as I have been using SleepyHead to keep an eye on my treatment up to now.

In general I think I'll be ok with this machine for now, given the budget that I have to work with right now. I don't (get) to travel often, so the size is not a huge concern.

I think you will find that the resmed airsense 10 is quite a small unit especially considering that it contains the humidifier. Dimensions - Machine with Water Chamber: 10.04 in L x 4.57 in W x 5.91 in H

Thanks yaconsult,

I pulled my SD card and there are about 30 files or so, but none of the data files are readable with anything that I know of. Maybe it has so little data is because I have the plain CPAP machine.

I have been considering the Airsense 10, but since my insurance will not pay for any DME equipment I am holding off for the time being. I am already out about $700 this year for the basic machine that I have. Sadly, I did not find this site until I got screwed into buying this basic machine for a price that I could have brought a real machine for. Oh well, live and learn......

I already knew that they are Chinese. And I have no problem with most consumer products from there.
I just have an acute memory of toxic chemicals in children's toys, baby formula, and pet food.
Healthcare equipment and medicine--I'm sorry, but my safety alarms go off! LOUD!

I left those out based on this info on the sleepyhead wiki (http://sleepyhead.sourceforge.net/wiki/):
Fisher & Paykel Icon (It's still a work in progress, but it's getting quite good)
DeVilbiss Intellipap CPAP/Auto (These machines don't store flow waveforms)
So I guess I was making a distinction in which machines were best supported by the available versions of sleepyhead. But maybe the wiki info is out of date?

That is unfortunate. I believe the only option for resmart is their website.

You might keep an eye out for a good deal on a used machine on either craigslist, this forum, or secondwindcpap.com.

Good deals on craigslist are rare and and require a lot of care, but sometimes you can luck out on craigslist - I got a Respironics 550P for $100 with only about a month of use on it because the guy's insurance changed and he got a new machine.

For new machines, our sponsor cpap.com usually has some of the lowest prices so they are a good benchmark. Please feel free to post and ask us about any machines you are considering buying if you need to make sure that you are getting a fully data-capable one next time. I think most of the experienced posters here would only consider machines supported by the wonderful SleepyHead software.
