I was told by my sleep doc that my trusty Resmed auto M series with a flex machine is about to die. Any recommendations for a low cost replacement? I don't need anything fancy: my pressure is pretty low. But I can't tolerate continuous pressure; I need auto adjust, and of course a humidifier.
There are a ton of machines on Craigs list but wow, it's a gamble buying used electronics--although my current machine was acquired 'used' from Kaiser in a very kind gesture.

Re: recommendations for a new cpap machine
Not sure if many of us have had the opportunity to test a variety of machines so can only report on limited experiences.
I started off CPAP with a constant pressure new "brick" ResMed on hire at cheap rates but a couple of months ago purchased a used autoset ResMed. It was touted as only 12 year old but when it arrived it had been obviously in use 2 years. But the asking price was 1/3 new so I have not complained and have been told they are reliable so should get years of use ahead. Regardless, the main thing to go would be the motor + maybe a few seals and I could do that repair (supposing I could get the parts that is).
So, if you buy used, insist on being given a read out of the hours it has been used. Purchasing from a dealer gives you more clout/reliability but would be more expensive - up to you. Personally I think the new price is a bit over the top, especially here in Australia where they are supposedly made, so recommend purchasing used, but with care!
Good luck.

Do not deride the idiots of this world as they make the rest of us look so much better BUT, avoid being an idiot yourself and PERSIST WITH CPAP.

Re: recommendations for a new cpap machine
Paying out of pocket?
If so I would suggest the Respironics PR System One 60 series Auto CPAP which is model 560 (that has the auto adjusting pressures you want).
If you have been happy with the way the M series does its job then I would stay with the Respironics brand.
Those machines are a usually a little easier on the pocketbook than the ResMed machines.
I know of a couple of forum members with gently used (low hour) 560 models that are people I would buy from if I needed something they had. PM me if you want additional information on those members.
One was a 560 with humidifier, etc with about 60 hours for $375 if she still has that one.

Enjoying the ResMed S9 auto set, now in its sixth year. Seen them used for $200 - $300.

Thanks guys...yeah, I pay out of pocket, so...Kaiser classifies hearing aids as 'cosmetic devices' and pays nothing towards cpap machines either.
