Leak rate of 32L.minute on a P10 mask and New A10 machine

Post by MarylandCPAPer » Fri Jul 03, 2015 9:17 pm

The stats on my 3 day old Airsense 10 with Autoset for Her machine are showing a leak rate of 32L/minute when using an Airfit P10 nasal pillows mask with Medium pillows. i feel no leaks around the nasal pillows. I don't think I sleep with my mouth open, but maybe it falls open when I am asleep. Is this an acceptable leak rate. If not, should I be trying a larger nasal pillow on that mask or trying a chin strap? I have used the P10 mask for 1.5 years, think the Medium nasal pillows fit me GREAT, have used APAP for 5 .5 years, and just got a new machine (the A10) on Tuesday. After one bad first night on the machine, I made adjustments and now have hibernated with it for 14-15 hours the past two nights, mostly sleeping, I think. With my prior machine, it was not unusual for me to spend 4 hours getting to sleep, then sleep with the machine for 12 hours. I'm just wondering about the 32l/minute leak rate.

I can't get Sleepyhead to work on a Windows 8.1 computer. I asked about that in a separate thread.

My AHI is below 2 and central apneas 0.5, according to the A10 machine.

Any advice or insights would be appreciated.

SleepyHead will indeed work on Windows 8.1 computer. I have a Windows 8.1 computer and it does work but I did have to add that one little file. Easy to do though.

Where is the 32 L/min leak number coming from? If it is from the machine that's a 95% leak number when means for 95% of the night you were at or below that leak number. People tend to forget the "or below" part of the definition...we don't know how low it went or how high it went for a short period of time.

Before going that extra mile to try to fix the leak with a chin strap or tape or going to full face mask let's make sure that it really needs fixing first. To do that you really need the software up an running so that you can see the graphs.
You can use SleepyHead if you wish or you could use ResScan. I will send you a private message in a little bit with some ResScan information.

So before letting panic mode set in about leak numbers let's look at the entire night's leak in detail
Maybe the leak was bad for 30 minutes out of the entire night or maybe it was half the night but find out for sure just how bad (or not bad) it is before worrying about fixing it.
