What Causes Spontaneous Arousals?
Re: What Causes Spontaneous Arousals?
What if untreated sleep apnea was actually the source of some of the symptoms you were prescribed meds for? It will be interesting to see if getting therapeutic CPAP treatment reduces your difficulty getting and staying off the meds. The hard part for you at this point might be maintaining a positive perspective on your CPAP treatment when you are not yet feeling better because your sleep is still bad. I think you have every reason to be optimistic about your future sleep, and I hope once the weaning process is over you'll keep us informed of your progress.

Re: What Causes Spontaneous Arousals?
I have an appointment with my ENT next week. One of my problems has been chronic congestion. I simply have trouble breathing out of my nose. I am going through immunotherapy and here in the last week I am starting to breathe better. I want to make sure CPAP wouldn't interfere with my breathing clearly. My arousals could also simply have been because I was in an uncomfortable place. But what happens if I have UARS? From what I understand CPAP is not the treatment for that. Wow, lots of things going through my head. Perhaps once I'm off my meds and breathing clearly I may not even need CPAP. I want to buy the Airsense 10 but that's about $1,000 with a mask and I'd hate to never use it.

Should be taken with a grain of salt. Basically this is saying crappy sleep (>20 RDI) is "normal" for those with age 50+
