Have Any Men Used the "For Her" model?

Post by rockncountry101 » Thu Jul 02, 2015 7:04 pm

I've decided on the Resmed Airsense 10. The only decision now is if I should go with the "for her" model. The only difference is that it has a new algorithm for women and it reports RERA's. That's it. Any other guys use it?

I am not a guy, but I just got the "For Her" model. I am used to a different type of machine (PR System One) that I used for 5.5 years. I spent the first night being miserable on "Auto For Her" mode and switched to plain Auto last night. I think it is nice to have the extra algorithm and ability to check for RERAs, and I think that is the reason people here tend to recommend "For Her" models. If you ask for the "For Her" model, be prepared for a possible unawareness on the part of drs. and DMEs of the extra machine capabilities and be prepared to tell them that is why you want a "For Her" version of the Airsense 10 Autoset.

I just got my "For Her" model on Tuesday, and the DME respiratory therapist, who I previously had thought was pretty knowledgeable, thought the request for the "For Her" model was because of the exterior appearance, which I think is suitable for anyone. It's not pink (for which I am thankful). I informed him that men wanted it too because of the extra Auto algorithm. He appeared not to know what an algorithm was and said he had only dispensed 2 of the "For Her" model and the last woman asked "Can't I get it in blue?" The DME said they now routinely provides Airsense 10 Autoset models when the prescription would be applicable for a CPAP machine. A year or so ago, the same respiratory therapist had told me the replacement machine (after the 5 year period allowed by my insurance) would be a PR System One machine, which is APAP capable, essentially a newer model of the machine I had been using.

I asked if they were still dispensing PR System One machines and was told they now routinely provided the Airsense 10 Autoset because it is newer and the PR System One has had some problems with humidfiers.

Good luck with getting set up with therapy.

I won't have to worry about DME's or doctors. I have the script and I'm buying it from cpap.com =)
