Please recommend good nasal pillow masks

Post by yaconsult » Tue Jun 30, 2015 12:21 pm

I have been on cpap with 100% compliance for 8+ years. A new sleep doctor sent me for sleep test in January and my AHI was 80.

Although the prescription was sent in January, the DME has not yet contacted me and I have had other issues to deal with. Of course, I bought a 550P on craigslist in January when my old machine started acting up, so it's not like I've ever been without therapy! I contacted the doctor this week and had him write a specific prescription for the AirSense 10 Autoset for Her and send it to me.

I am planning on visiting the DME in person since they either don't answer, disconnect, or voicemail any calls. And, YES, there are not any other DME options available to me with my current coverage - BELIEVE me, I've checked! When I show up in their office, I will not be ignored!

I have been using the Breeze nasal pillow system with success for years. But this is my chance to try some other nasal pillow systems and I would love feedback on what the good ones to try would be.

I don't yet know if the DME will only let me try them in the office or will let me take more than one home to try. Given their poor performance so far, I'm not expecting much - making this research even more important.

What good nasal pillow systems should I try for my pressures of 13-20?

Thank you!

I don't use a nasal mask at all but I read a lot of mask user guides. I haven't found a single mask that will have difficulty in that pressure range. The only ones that have problems are the ones people want to try when their pressures are up around 25 cmH2O and there are very few like that.

So, just look for one that is comfortable and doesn't give problems with the headgear fitting you or have mask parts that poke in places you don't like.

I've been using swift fx nasal pillows in the medium size. I get 6 to 8 hours sleep a night. Nice low profile.

I like everything about the Swift FX except the little hose. I end up destroying those hoses left and right. I really enjoy that mask and figured out a work around that I used for awhile. I have now moved on the the Nuance and it is reasonably comfortable and the little hose seems to hold up much better.

I like the Airfit P10 nasal pillows. I have used that mask for 1.5 years. The nasal pillows are durable and Medium fits me like a glove. If you may need extra small nasal pillows, there is a "For Her" version that offers that size, along with small and medium. The regular Airfit P10 offers small, medium and large nasal pillows.

When you went for your sleep test did you sleep without your cpap

If you did why would you do that?

Are you still able to get replacement Breeze masks? If so, why are you thinking of switching? Just curious, as I used that mask for about 4 years but was told about 2 years ago it was no longer made. The headgear has broken on all of my Breeze masks. Now,the Breeze appears to be available from online CPAP vendors, so I asked my DME to get me one. Due to TMJ problems, I loved the Breeze mask, since there is nothing over the jaw area. The DME said he hasn't seen a Breeze mask in 8 or more years and I have not yet heard whether he was able to order one.

I previously posted about the AirFIT P10. It has probably not been as good for me as the Breeze, due to my TMJ problems. However, it is much lighter weight in the headgear. The P10 hose flops around in front of you, not over the head as in the Breeze. I liked the way the Breeze directed the hose.

It's nice to see that I am not the only person who has used the Breeze in recent years. Let us know what nasal mask(s) you try and what you think, compared with the Breeze.
