This one is likely the better option of the ones you listed.

That's a Phillips Respironics PR System One CPAP Auto (APAP) 60 series machine (the other similar PR S1 machine listed above is a slightly older 50 series machine).
Contact sleep_quest above...what she offered is a 560 model and is forum member whom I trust and would buy from if I needed what she had. I think one of her machines already has the upgrade kit and optional heated hose which costs $75 extra to add it later.
In terms of the pressure causing problems...unless you have some sort of contraindication in your health history...like heart problems or lung disease the pressure won't hurt you. So if you are healthy otherwise...the pressure used to keep the airway open is really not all that much and is unlikely to cause you any problems.
About the worse thing that can happen would be some air getting into the digestive tract and causing discomfort but not everyone has that happen. I think in 6 years I have had it happen twice and both those times were unusual circumstances.
I did what you are wanting to do to both my sister and her husband and recently to a friend of my husband.
It takes some education and a little bit of work but it isn't horribly difficult.
It is possible to self diagnose and self treat. We have a good many forum members here who have done just that very thing.
And yes to what Palerider said....but consider buying from sleep_quest as I think she can save you some money and I think she has a couple of masks and if she doesn't...I do.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

I went to http://www.secondwind.com, and it appears to be a sight regarding wind energy (wind turbines, etc). Is that the internet site you meant to give, or did I miss something?Julie wrote:There are machines for sale all the time on the forum... the thing is that you want an Apap (which normally can run in Cpap mode anyway, tho' not the other way around), plus one that gives data - not just compliance, but the different features you'll want to follow and see how you're doing and what to tweak when necessary. We can help with that too - letting you know which machines are which. Secondwind.com is a great place to look, but be careful of Craig's list ones unless they give blower hrs used, etc. And of course the mask is all important as it can make or break things. If you sleep on your back, it's more likely you'll snore and much more likely you'll have lots more apneas, so work hard at not doing that now. When you try masks on - lie down as your face changes a lot when you do. If you think (and it sounds that way) your mouth will be open when sleeping, you should probably try to find the right 'full face' mask in your size and properly fitted, even if you also get just a nasal mask, because leaks can make a big diff. and if you have a cold a nasal mask won't be much help. Start looking at postings here and if you see something likely, ask if we think it's a good deal and we'll let you know - there are some very dependable and well known sellers here, and some not so much. And you can download software here free to track everything.
