Super groggy

Post by Morningglory » Mon May 25, 2015 9:33 am

I've had my equipment for a week now (this is my first time using one). I'm progressing with being able to sleep with the mask, thankfully. I feel like I"m getting good sleep. However, I'm so very groggy when I wake up, and it's really hard to stay awake and get anything else done. Does this go away? How did you cope with extreme grogginess? I'm not much for caffeine and would rather find a different way.

Kind of hard to answer since you really have provided no answers.

How long are you sleeping?
What are the readings from your machine?
Have you tried using sleepyhead to get detail output of your sleep information?
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM
TNET Sleep Resource Pages - CPAP Machine Database
Put your equip in your Signature - SleepyHead v1.0.0-beta-1

+1

If your machine pressure settings are not optimized or your mask has large leaks, you may be getting poor therapy. It's difficult to tell without data.

I see in another thread you have Sleepyhead. Have you downloaded the data off your card and started to look at reports?

Here is a post from Pugsy explaining how to post reports here - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=104876&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30

It would be helpful if you filled in your equipment list using the Control panel.

Other things can cause drowsiness besides apnea issues.
For example, beta blockers can do that especially if they interact with other meds.

As has been said, verifying your treatment is therapeutic and ruling out other contributors are top considerations. If it turns out those are not at issue, this early in treatment you may just be craving good sleep now that you can get it. Once my CPAP treatment was optimized, I experienced what felt like an endless craving for sleep. I was in a position to give my body what it was asking for, and nearly hibernated for a few weeks. One day I woke up, all bright and chipper, looked out at the sunshine, and knew I was ready to rejoin the world. I think I just needed time to heal and recover. Years of untreated apnea had certainly been an assault on my body. Hope you are able to pinpoint any problems and get on with the recovery process and one day feel the fog lift a bit.
