Help with new machine

Post by Davenurse » Fri May 22, 2015 6:39 pm

Hi, I'm Dave and I'm new to this forum. I had a CPAP for about 10 years, my last machine was a Remstar that lasted over 25,000 hours. I was given a new System One and I didnt get it through the normal channels (the doctor). I am very overwhelmed with the amount of settings this machine has. I have it set now to straight APAP and last nights AHI was 5. What can I do to get my AHI down to normal or is it just a matter of adjusting to the APAP setting as opposed to my old CPAP machine. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. BTW I feel like a new person since using the new machine, the fog has lifted!!!!!

You could start here - viewtopic/t35702/Where-A-CPAP-Newbie-Should-Start.html

Having some idea what settings you are using, were using before etc.. would help. There are a number of knowlegable users who can guide you in how to use your machine, set the settings, and then obtain data and track your usage to see how you are doing with it.
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM
TNET Sleep Resource Pages - CPAP Machine Database
Put your equip in your Signature - SleepyHead v1.0.0-beta-1

Why not set the lowest pressure to be the same as it was on your old machine and leave the high pressure at 20? Then use sleepyhead to see how you are doing. Since you're a long time user, you will probably do fine like that.

Exhalation Pressure Relief is a comfort feature and can be set to 1, 2 or 3, higher numbers being more relief. The newer machines work better than the old models - I think you'll like it!

Have you downloaded the clinician's manual yet? A Google search will locate it for you. Oh, and fill out the equipment section of your profile, please. What is the model number on the bottom of your blower? 550P or 560P?

get a manual for it from apneaboard.com (there's a link on the front page, or someone will prolly post a more direct link in a bit)

get sleepyhead, and post a couple nights data as shown on these three pages:

https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize (I really need to put that in my sig... )

oh, trust me, once you get sleepyhead installed, you can give us WAY more data just check that webpage I linked

first thing I'd say, though, is up your min pressure to 9. if you need around there, and the 90% suggests you probably do, 4 is a long way for the machine to have to climb from to stifle your apneas.

Do you know what your pressure setting on the old Remstar were? Were you using C-Flex on your old machine? And do you know whether the old machine recorded any efficacy data at all? If it did, do you know what your AHI typically was on the old machine? If not, how were you feeling when using the old machine? And how are you feeling now as compared to how you were feeling on the old machine?

The answers to those questions are important when it comes to figuring out how to set up your new System One APAP.
I have it set now to straight APAP and last nights AHI was 5. What can I do to get my AHI down to normal or is it just a matter of adjusting to the APAP setting as opposed to my old CPAP machine.
What is your min pressure set to?

What is your max pressure set to?

What is your A-flex set to?

When you write that last night's AHI = 5, are you getting that from the machine's LCD? The SleepMapper website? Or SleepyHead or Encore? The machine's LCD doesn't break down the AHI into parts (CAI, AI, HI, etc), and that's unfortunate because what to do to further reduce the AHI depends strongly on what the break down of events actually is.

Are you willing to install and use SleepyHead to better manage the settings on your System One APAP? If so, then there's a lot more information that we can use to help you tweak the settings?

Dave, my suggestion is to set Minimum pressure at 8, just a bit below your CPAP setting and max around 14. This is based on the information you have provided.
I agree you need to get Sleepyhead software and learn to use it. You will get plenty of help here once you can tell us what is actually happening.
It would also help if you change your equipment profile from pictures to text, since there are many models that look the same.

raise your minimum pressure, I'd go with 9 if it were me.
