How long does it usually take for tritation follow up?

Post by Enchanter » Thu May 21, 2015 4:28 pm

For you? I took the tritation on the 8th. Still haven't heard back. They said they're working on it. I still don't know if my 1 hour sleep was ample enough for them.

I waited about 3 weeks before I got my cpap machine. That wait was a killer... I felt like I was dying and they were sleeping at the wheel..

Hang tough and keep bugging them.

Mine was about 2 weeks. It seems to vary. Probably depends on how busy they are and how backed up they are. Mine had to wait for the sleep lab to send the data to the doctor. So, they wouldn't make an appointment any sooner than 2 weeks.

I am afraid that each case is handled differently. My apnea was severe and I have been on cpap for years, so when they did my study in January they did a split study. It took almost a week before I could access my results online.

Not counting the referral to the sleep dr and seeing him the first time...

Note that I had already been using CPAP for 9yrs. This was to get a new machine. Sleep study was a split study like the one 9years earlier.

From the sleep study to machine, almost 3 weeks. Getting the sleep report was about 5 days only because they needed a form I didn't know about, otherwise it would have been 2 days.
  • sleep study was done on a Tues night so it ended Wed morning.
  • I had an appointment with the sleep dr to go over the results almost 2 weeks after because his first availability I was going to be out of town. Otherwise it would have been the following Monday.
  • Wed morning (after the test), I found that the Sleep Dr marked the report. I didn't know this however until Friday. It also showed up on my Insurance billing as the date of the test and the dr's review were the same date.
  • On Thursday I filed a request with the Hospital for a copy of my test (center was attached to a hospital). Got the form from the hospital website.
  • On Friday while out of town, I got a call from the sleep center, they said the results were ready but I needed to sign another form. They emailed me form. I signed it, scanned it (used my camera) and sent it back.
  • On Monday they emailed me the sleep report. I was still out of town. but I had the report then in a Word document.
  • A week and a 1/2 later, I saw the Sleep Dr who had the same report. Went over the results.
  • At that visit, he wrote the RX for the machine, mask and supplies, gave me a copies and sent to the DME
  • Machine was already authorized by then by the Insurance.
  • The DME contacted me and had the machine and fitting about 3 days later. DME's office is literally about 2800ft from my house. Saw them in the morning before going to work. took the machin into work to play with it, go over the clinicians manual. Was do that or actually do some work... easy choice.
  • Left work early, setup the machine in the living room, tried it in my recliner for about 45 mins or so
  • Moved my old machine out of the bedroom, moved the new machine in, and was tested and ready for bed time.
  • Next day, did a really good cleaning of the old machine, packaged it up in it's case with a spare hose, mask, and card reader (Smartcard machine).

As another poster said, it varies from provider to provider. My study was a split study, which included titration, and I had an appointment with the sleep doc the next morning. The next week they sent my prescription to me, and I went to the DME the day I got the RX. Keep bugging them, shouldn't take more than a couple weeks if they're organized and not super busy.

I had my first sleep study on 3/6/15 and the follow up titration study on 4/24/15. I got the results from my titration (along with an Rx) in the mail on 5/5/15 and ordered what I wanted from cpap.com that day. I didn't have the patience to deal with a DME (I did call around and the earliest DME appointments were in July!), plus I have pretty good out-of-network coverage, so I can submit my cpap.com invoice to my insurance company for 80% reimbursement. Paying 20% of the cost out-of-pocket was worth it to me to not have to wait around for the DME.

It depends on so many things that there really isn't an answer to your question - except to keep bugging them.

I got my machine in less than a week. But, my doctor, the DME, and my insurance company all worked together really quickly. Had I used a different doctor, or DME or my insurance company didn't want to cooperate, I'm sure it could have taken much longer.

It may take several weeks longer... so try to relax. I would keep calling tho. I'm sure you know that story about the squeaky wheel... but be pleasant while you're being squeaky.

I finished my 5 day sleep study on a Wednesday, and two days later on Friday I had my prescription. Got my CPAP machine by the following Monday.

I was diagnosed with severe apnea. This was done through a Kaiser sleep study center.

FWIW, the only DME option in my area was Apria, which I think many would agree can be very difficult to work with. I'm in the Bay Area, and the next available appointment with an Apria representative was in July. It sounds like others have much better luck with their DMEs.

The sleep clinic sent my prescription to the providers two months after the titration study; as far as I've been able to tell they lost a couple of doctors and got backed up.

But I think that was unusual.

I kept calling, though. I figure that's good advice.

That is a pretty big red flag. Do they do Oil Changes for your car there too? Seriously, if they are in the business of sleep tests this shouldn't happen. Very unprofessional.
