Need Advice: AirFit N10 vs Swift FX Nano

Post by FERGIE » Thu May 21, 2015 5:52 pm

Hi,
So, I started using a CPAP just over a week ago and the sleep tech gave me the ResMed AirFit N10 to use with a standard-sized and small-sized mask. I've been using the standard mask even though I think the smaller one fits (I haven't tried it overnight yet). I like how the mask feels, but hate the noise when I inhale. I don't find white noise soothing, especially when it sound like a jet starting its engine. The noise bothers my husband, too.

I spoke with a ResMed clinician today about this issue and she suggested that I try the smaller N10 mask that I have or switch to the Swift FX Nano or the Mirage FX. I'm considering the Swift FX Nano because of its design. But, I need to know: How is the noise level for this mask? Have you been able to compare the N10 with the Swift FX Nano?

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I tried using the small-sized N10 mask last night. This seemed to help a lot. The noise wasn't as much of an issue and I had no problems with leaks or skin irritations.

Thanks for your comment, palerider.

The smaller mask is much more comfortable, but the noise is still an issue. I don't want to hear myself breathe so much. I'm receiving the Swift FX Nano on Friday to give it a try.

I have the Nano and the N10. Most people seem to think the Airfit series is quieter than other masks because of the way they vent. I haven't found that true for me particularly but, I think, it's more trading one kind of noise for another. I like both the masks but am using an F10 right now. One thing about the Nano is the piece we all call the cushion is called something else by the company that makes it. As a result I wasn't able to replace it monthly like a normal cushion - I think my DME told me 3 or 6 months. So if that is important to you, you might want to investigate. Good luck, Fergie!
