why won't sleepyhead work anymore?

Post by Jak3099 » Thu May 14, 2015 6:38 pm

Hi all,

I haven't used sleepyhead in almost a year. I tried to import my data as usual, and it didn't import anything new at all. The most recent data was July 2014.... the last time I used the software!!

Here's my info:
- Mac OSX 10.10.3
- Resmed S9
- tried running sleepyhead v0.9.8-1

I tried deleting the app, downloading the newest versions (both open and broken GL). I tried specifying the DATALOG folder on the SD card, but the program always crashes. I deleted my profile and made a new one. It says it has imported data, but nothing shows up!

Any tips on what to do? I'm pretty sure the data card was not on "lock" while in my machine. This is frustrating because my sleeping has been bad lately and I want to see my data!

On my windows machine, I don't select the folder. The program finds the correct files on its own and downloads what it needs.

On Windows you don't pick the folder but the drive the SD card is in.

Doesn't have to be the SDcard, just the contents of one.

If you use Wireless SDcards which save the data to a directory, SleepyHead will use that as well. What won't work, it something like Rescan since it wants a specific SDCard.

Hmmm still pretty new to Mac, I have an older Macbook with Yosemite on it and had no problems getting a currently downloaded version of SleepyHead v0.9.8-1-testing to work.

I used an USB Stick that you put an SDCard into to read the data.

Not sure why you would be having problems and I have never had it crash while playing with it and writing up documentation on how to install and configure it.

First things first. Open windows file explorer or the equivalent on your computer. Look at the drives on the computer. Now, plug in the usb card reader with the card in it. Does a new drive open in file explorer that wasn't there before you plugged it in?

Assuming a new drive showed up, open the new drive in the file explorer. Do you see any folders?

If so, open the folders. Can you see the files?

There is nothing magic about the sdcards. They just contain fat32 filesystems and folders and files. Nothing special at all. If you can't see the right things in the file explorer, then sleepyhead won't be able to import it.

The easiest thing to try is probably another sdcard. You should have a spare anyway. When you plug it into the cpap, it will format it and copy the data to it. Then try to import from the new card.

If you get errors, let us know what they are.

I can definitely see files/folders when I have the SD card plugged into my computer. The reader should be fine because I also tested by digital camera's SD card and it was able to be read on my computer.

I backed up the resmed SD card, re-formatted it tonight, and will see if I get tonight's sleep data when I plug it into the computer tomorrow (keeps fingers crossed). I'm really curious to see what my 95% pressure has been the past several weeks.

With OSX you don't need to use Finder (like windows file explorer), when you plug in a SDcard or USB drive, the drive will open and show on the desktop as a drive. You can just click on it and see the contents.

He already sees files and has tested the SDCard slot with images so it is not the reader on his computer.

an update for what it's worth:

reformatting the SD card did the trick. my machine is recording data normally. unfortunately, i've lost data between july 2014 to may 2015. i think i might have forgotten to lock the SD card when i put it in my computer back in july!

i don't know how the sleep doctor made any conclusions if there was no data back in september or october though

As already mentioned, the flashair 2 wireless sdcard is very convenient. Those of us who use it never have to take the card out of the cpap machine or write-protect it. We use a program like sleep master to wirelessly copy the data from the sd card while it is still in the cpap machine into a folder on our computers. When we start sleepyhead, we import the data from the folder on our computer that sleep master copied it to. It is a great convenience if you want the ability to check your data often.
