Encore pro trouble

Post by gwarren » Fri May 26, 2006 10:54 am

I loaded Encore pro version 1.6i last night along with the respironics smart card software and attached the reader after rebooting. I opened Encore pro, added a patient (me) inserted the smart card and downloaded the data. It took an error during the download and now it doesn't work at all. I am running Windows XP service pack 2 and am current on patches. I uninstalled the Encore pro and smart card software and reinstalled it, but it still fails to download. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,

Use a USB port that is on the motherboard if possible. It seems that the reader doesn't like some USB hubs.

When the screen came up, durring the first installation, asking abuot the SQL server password setting, did you choose the one to not use a password?

This was what caused my install problems. Sounds like you have the same symptoms that I did.

Yes, I choose not to use a login and password and it came back with a box asking if I was sure I wanted to do that because patient info could be compromised. I figured it was just me, so it was ok.

I guess I wasn't really clear. Chosing not to use a password is the right choice. On my initial install I chose to use a password and that was what caused all my problems. Not sure what your problem might be. Somebody here should. Can you post the error message that you are getting?

The error message said:

Error souce Respironics Smart Card 2 type 0.1
Error Number: 8004020f

I moved the card reader from a powered USB hub to a direct connection to the motherboard. I don't get this error message now, but every time I try to download the readers light changes from green to red.

It is possible that there is no data on the card. Did you set Encore Pro to not erase data after download? To do this go to
C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro\Utilities
and select the file "Don't erase after download", this will leave the data on the card after download and just overwrite the oldest data when its full. I tested mine by just setting here and breathing on it while watching TV and viewing this forum. That way you can be sure that there is data on the card to download.

Just some of my thoughts on it.

I don't see that as a choice. I have Encore Pro 1.6i. The choices under utilities are:

Bulk export import
Import data from CSV file
Import data from Encore file
Print labels

Maybe I don't understand how the card reader works. Is the light suppose to change from green to red when ever you try to do anything with the card reader? After I moved the reader to a motherboard USB port, the errors stopped and I did get data, but the light went red. I would have thought that it would stay green all the time when the card is inserted. I wrote a presciption to the card. Maybe that erased the data. I'll try downloading again tomorrow and see what happens. Could you give me some input as to how the light on the card reader reacts while using Encore Pro? Also is the My Encore program compatible with Encore Pro 1.6i or will it only work with 1.5i?

The light will go red after data is downloaded, but I can still download data even if the light is red. It just turns green again during download and red after completion. The data on the card was erased when you wrote the prescription. I'm pretty sure MyEncore will work ok.

You don't see that as a command inside of encore pro...

You see it as a file in the Utilities folder.

Open My Computer then navigate to Program Files then to Respironics then Encore Pro then Utilities.

This is just a file in that folder. It has a type of .reg - so it is associated with the registry editor. If you look at the file, it just sets a particular registry value.

When you run the file, it acts like a script and instructs the registry to change the value.

I've seen that error, but it went away when I started plugging the reader into the computer.

I have noticed that the order you do things in is very important:
  • You install Encore Pro,
  • You install the drivers
  • You install MyEncore
If you uninstall anything, you uninstall everything - and you reboot before you install again, because if you don't, part of your install may be deleted when you do reboot - because some of the files are liable to be in use, and their deletion will be postponed until the next reboot - if you install again before you reboot, you will delete those files anyway.

I did find an interesting piece of free software almost as an adjunct to this - http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips620.html - not for the faint of heart, but if you are comfortable expanding the file and following simple instructions to copy parts of the file into the \WINDOWS directory, you can use the free driver to mount a .iso file as a drive letter - so if you need to do something like this on a system which does not have a nearby cd-rom drive, you can copy the cd-rom to an image file, a .iso, and then you can copy the iso into a directory on the target system and then mount the file as a CD.
