Encore Installation Problem
Encore Installation Problem
Well, my first night didn't go very well. I know I viewed CPAP as a panacea and this isn't realistic, but I will stick to it and I'm sure it will go well over time.
I am anxious to install my Encore software so I can tell better what is happening when I am sleeping. However, I cannot get it to install. I've read all the messages I can find on installation problems and have tried to trouble shoot it myself with no result (other than blowing out my network connection and having to call the cable company).
Here is what happens. If anyone can help me I would GREATLY!!!!!! appreciate it.
Everything seems to go well until I get the following message. I am using a Dell computer that has always worked well and I have Windows XP. I've already verifyed I have the print sharing feature on (this was in one of the messages I found when searching).
ERROR MESSAGE I RECEIVE --
Error Creating Database: ActiveX component cannot create object
Error Source: Dalphin
Error Number: 1AD
Upgrade Process:
Creating New Encore Pro Database Version 11.9
Creating Database Encore Pro
I've gone in and changed my ActiveX settings to where I think I have not restricted anything, but everytime I run the install no matter what I do the same things happens.

Encore Installation Problem
Well, I've gotten through the ActiveX issue (although I'm not sure how). Now I'm experiencing the same problem "dizzy" is reporting today. I get to the screen that asks me for my database password. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works. I am using the single PC as an option instead of network. I've also eliminated all the files and directories each time prior to attempting another installation.
Any ideas. Don

Don,
Don't know if you saw it or if it will solve your problem, but you can look at my advice to Dizzy. I am pretty sure that it is how I solved this problem on my own install.

I Tried That
Handgunner45, I did see your post and tried that. The funny thing is that when I had the ActiveX problem I was coming to a screen that asked if I wanted to use a password (something like an SA password). Now the ActiveX issues seems to have been resolved. However, when I install it doesn't bring me to the password screen. I simply go straight to one that asks me for the ID and password. There is no box to check saying I don't want to use one. Don
Well... after a couple more hours, I finally got it installed. I have no idea which out of the pile of things I tried that did it, but something (or all) worked (and they are not for the faint of heart... requires downloading and installing other software, uninstalling the same, deleting a ton of registry keys by hand, editing services, etc...) Beware that deleting reg keys can seriously screw the machine up, even lock you out of windows if you delete the wrong one...
I don't have time to go thru the instructions right now but I'll try to get back on later tonight and write them up. I have a feeling it was leftover reg keys that were screwing up the works... I hope you are familiar with the registry and services in XP. Do you have Service Pack 2 installed?

Did you first delete the folder and all contents at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server
I believe I had to do this and uninstall Encore Pro through the controll panel and then start a fresh install.
The big thing is you need to choose no password required.

David,
Your post triggered a memory. I believe that I might have done a system restore to a previous point. This might have taken care of the registry entries that you mentioned. I am sure that I didn't manually change anything in the registry to accomplish the install.

Is it uninstalled right now? If you go to Start/Administrative tools/Services, is there a MSSQL$ENCOREPRO service listed? Under status, is it started, or stopped? I assume you are logged in with admin rights?itznuthin wrote:Yes, I did a full uninstall and I deleted the SQL directory. Did it a number of times but no luck. I hope I can get it installed...

PS... now I can't get the card reader to work. I've installed the drivers, but when I plug it in I get an error saying its not recognized by windows or the device is broken...
De-install
David, I had been uninstalling but I checked the service screen you mentioned and I did find MSQL$ENCOREPRO listed. I searched the drive for all files that started with those letters including hidden files but I couldn't find a file. Is this a file or something else? Is this the reason I no longer come to the screen that asks me if I want to set up a password. I used to get that screen and now I don't. It simply asks me for the ID and password that I don't have. Re: De-install
I never got the screen asking to set up a password until I did the following (it sounds like your problem may be different though)...itznuthin wrote:David, I had been uninstalling but I checked the service screen you mentioned and I did find MSQL$ENCOREPRO listed. 1. After installing and uninstalling several times, I uninstalled EncorePro 1.6 again ( I never had the option to remove MS SQL... it was never listed from the Encore installs) and removed the C:\Program files\Resperonics dir and the C:\Program files\Microsoft SQL server dir (Assuming you didn't have it installed previously).
2. Reboot
3. I download .NET at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en and installed (you need XP service pack 2... download and install that first if you don't have it... you can go to start\control panel\system\general and under system it will list what variation of XP you are running... it should say service pack 2). I don't think .NET is needed for Encore Pro, but it is needed if you want to try the My Encore addon, so you might as well do it
4. Reboot again
5. I think this step is completely unneccessary, but I'll list it here anyway, but I doubt you need to do it. I downloaded and installed Microsoft SQL express server, rebooted, then uninstalled (there were now like 5 SQL listings I uninstalled). Rebooted again. The whole point of this step was the hope of any SQL reg settings that were left behind from the likely botched encore install would get removed when I uninstalled the new one. Like I said, this was probably useless, considering I still had to do the next step...
6. In the service manager, I set the MSSQL$ENCOREPRO service to manual (it was not started, but was set to automatic)
7. Open regedit (start/run and type REGEDIT), and collapse the tree to the left and click my computer. (WARNING... editing the registry can seriously mess up you machine... do so at your own risk) That said, I believe its the most important step to getting it working for me. Before you edit anything in regedit, go to File and select Export... and save a copy somewhere as a backup (make sure the bottom of the save dialog has "all" checked. There is no undo when deleting keys, so if you goof and delete the wrong key, or think you goofed, you should be able to import the one you just saved, and start over.
Now with the top level (my computer selected), go to Edit/Find and uncheck value and data... just keys should be selected, and type MSSQL$ENCOREPRO into the search field. When it finds one, right click on the selected key and delete (make sure you have the proper key selected... Keys are the folders to the left). Then hit F3 (find again) and delete all keys it finds with MSSQL$ENCOREPRO in the name. If it won't let you delete one, just move on and the search will get you back to that one and you should eventually be able to delete all of them) When finished, quit Regedit (you don't need to save, changes take effect immediately)
8. Reboot.
9. At this point I was able to run the Encore Pro install (I just ran the setup.exe on the CD) and it finally got me to the screen asking if I wanted to use a password or not. I left it on "keep blank password" or something like that, and the install actually finished.
Once that nightmare was over, then it took forever to get the card reader working... that was another royal pain in the a$$!
Hope this helps... and be careful with that registry...

I have 1.6.22 and database version 11.9, then the next line says 2006 Respironics, Inc. ........
I installed it on XP sp2 and WinPro 2000. It went smooth. I did print Derek's
comments and sounds like I was lucky.
Is your software the 1.6.22 version?
Good luck with it......Dave

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.
I LOVE the SV.
