Can't install Encore Pro 1.6... very frustrating

Post by dizzy » Thu May 18, 2006 6:59 pm

Help...

I've searched the forum, and still can't install. I'm running under XP SP2, and can run the install...

it asks the language, network or single machine (I pick single)

Then I get install options (I leave it default which is Encore Pro Application checked, and the other 3 options... modem manager, sleep link, and Disable net protocols Unchecked.

It asks for the install paths for Encore and SQL server (I leave them default), brings me another ready to start install... next.

Database server name is there, greyed out, and backup path option I leave it the default and hit Install...

Then It pops up a dialog saying "unable to connect to the database server, please login, and asks me for a username and password. I put everything I can think of in there and nothing... says unable to connect, make sure user and password are correct and server is running. (Note I am logged in with Admin rights). If I go to Services, I see an entry for MSSQL$ENCOREPRO set to auto, but it is not started. If I try to start the service, It errors out saying it can't find the path specified. The path to executable under properties says C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$ENCOREPRO\Binn\sqlservr.exe

I have no Binn directory there... only Data, Install, and Log, and only about 5 files in all the folders... It looks like it is trying to log into the service before its installed. I can't see any way to uninstall the service and retry from scratch. I've rebooted, same thing. How can I get it to install the MSSQL$ENCOREPRO files before it tries to start that service?

Argh. I've spent two hours or so trying to figure this out. Any advice??

Thanks

-David

PS. On the CD, There is a DBInstaller dir, with a win2k SP3 and SP4 dir underneath. There is also a Database Instances Installer.exe and DBUpgrade.exe in the root of the DBInstaller dir. Are any of these the proper WinXP SQL installs that I could try to run first?

And... I disabled my spyware blocker and antivirus while installing. I also made sure print and file sharing was checked as per some previous threads on the forum.

Disable your antivirus software. Also, have you rebooted? I couldn't log into the server until the reboot

Disabled AV and rebooted, yes. Several times. Same problem. Uninstalled and tried reinstalling several times. The install is not finishing... keeps getting stuck asking me to login. The SQL Encore service isn't running because the needed files are not even there. (and the Encore program files are not getting installed either) It wants me to log in before it installs the neccessary files, but I can't login until the neccessary files are there...

Dizzy,
I had this same problem. I believe I solved it by going in a deleting the whole file at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server. Then when you do a reinstall and get to the screen that asks about the SQL server database password, you have to check the box that says to use no password. It will recommend against this but that is the only way that I could get it to work.

Hope this helps
