Looking for quieter exhale!!

Post by SnATLGa » Tue May 16, 2006 7:55 pm

I am presently getting complainst from spouse regarding the noise when I exhale. I am using a Remstar Plus with heated humid(yea, I know, they put off a unit on me w/o C-Flex) and a Respironics ComfprtGel mask. I am using a setting of 8, not using ramp at all.
I am considering a cpl of options, one would be to go to a similar machine but WITH C-Flex, another option would be the auto Remstar with C-Flec(even more expense). Another option would be a quieter nasal mask. I already have the Swift, which I liked for awhile, but it seems to tear up my nares and it is VERY noisy.
Please, I would appreciate an ideas from all of you regarding an even quieter combination. I just don't remember my first machine which had C-Flex (which my other provider took away from me when I changed ins. companies) being as loud when exhaling. I knwo it's not the machine, it's me, but possibly the C-Flex made it quieter. Any ideas/recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if you'll find a quieter CPAP machine; it's my understanding that Respironics Remstar machines are all generally reputed to be among the quietest options. I'm guessing that most of your exhalation noise is coming from the Swift. I tried one during my titration study and I found it to be VERY loud. Others have posted similar comments in this forum. I'm currently using a Comfortlite 2 nasal pillows interface and it's very quiet in comparison.

Good luck,
Dave

I use a Ff Mask, hc-431, But I would suggest a noise that will mask, all room noise. I made up a cd-r of 5 hours of Nature Sounds, my only problem is I need 8 hours and I wake up and have to fumble around getting it to restart, some day I am going to make it longer. Jim

I am finding the aiomed headrest to be fairly quiet. The exhalation port is up high on the forehead, maybe that is part of it. It is also easy on the nares, at least mine. After reading advice from the helpful members on the board, I used Ayr saline gel from the beginning. Maybe that helped keep me from getting any irritation.

I use the same mask and machine as Jim......and used the nature music to help my little grandaughter adjust to the sound of my machine, when she stayed over with me last weekend. By the time the tape was over, she was asleep, totally undisturbed by the mask/machine. The kid even slept in!

Can't you get the CD player to repeat endlessly?

I've got an alarm clock that will play the California surf sound forever. If
I get bored with that, I can plug my MP3 player into the clock, and listen to

quietest mask

Post by Ric » Wed May 17, 2006 10:51 pm

Of the 5 masks that I have used, the SomnoPlus is by far the quietest. I still prefer the UM-II, it's a little more comfortable, and still "quiet enuf".
