MyEncore Nightmare
MyEncore Nightmare
Hello!
I am a new user of a CPAP Machine. I purchased a card reader and Encore Pro 1.6. I have had a nightmare trying to get MyEncore to actually run!
By the way, I appreciate your idea of offering MyEncore! I haven't been able to get it to work though. I have read a bunch of posts, but none have helped so far.
I have Windows XP, Encore Pro 1.6, and a smart card reader.
The error message says:
"Unable to access the EncorePro Database.
"My Encore will close...
Index#0
Message: SQL server does not exist or access denied
Line Number:0
Source: .Net Sql Client Data Provider
Procedure: Connection Open (Connect())"
Yes, the icon is on at the bottom of my screen with the green arrow indicating that the SQL server is running.
Yes, I have already downloaded data into Encore Pro from my smart card.
I have reinstalled everything trying to get it to work. (In fact, I screwed up my System and had to even reinstall that!)
Anyone have any idea what to do?
God Bless!

My Encore nightmare
Hi, I had trouble too, because I was trying to read everything from Encore Pro, but once it is set up (dates, etc.), then you go to MyEncore for details. If you've already tried it that way, someone else with more experience will help you here.
Is your CPAP an old machine? I bought the Encore Pro software when I bought a new APAP machine. I installed the software and reader and downloaded the data from my old CPAP. I could see the data in EncorePro, but not in MyEncore, getting the same message you are getting. When I downloaded data from my new APAP, MyEncore immediately started working, but will not show the data from my old CPAP. Encore Pro apparently does not create a SQL database for the older machines, only the new ones. I am also using version 1.6 of Encore Pro, which may have something to do with it.
jon, here are some other things to check:
1. is your .NET framework up-to-date? you can download the latest (free) from Microsoft:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/ ... fault.aspx
2. is your MSSQL up-to-date? That is available (free) from Microsoft:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/2000/down ... fault.aspx
3. are both SQL servers up and running:
the MSQL server can be stopped and started from the services monitor:
Administrative Tools --> Services --> MSSQLSERVER (should be "started")
and also MSSQL$ENCOREPRO (same issue)
Another way to start that, probably a better way is to use a utility called sqlmangr.exe. Probably find it under
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\sqlmangr.exe
That will open a window and start/stop the MSSQL services and agents. It's OK to leave that window open and monitor the status of the SQL servers, and turn them on/off. In the Server window, select each and make sure the SQL Server Services is running ok, (green triangle or arrow on the server Icon), and that the server AGENT is NOT running, and the "Distributed Transaction Coordinator" is also NOT running (red square on the server icon). Leave the window open when you start the EncorePro application, monitor the status of the SQL servers. If they don't persist, that points to deeper problems. (?)
4. does your computer have more than one device that thinks it's a card reader?
(some models of Gateway and others have a card reader built in to the keyboard, some members of this forum have discovered it the hard way, with device conflicts):
Control Panel --> system --> hardware tab --> device manager --> smart card readers
If there is more than one listed, disable the one that ISN'T the MAKO INFINEER card reader.

When I last saw a posting by Derek, is was adjusted to work with version 1.5. Consider giving Derek a ping to ask about compatibility of MyEncore with version 1.6.
I think I've seen someone post that they've been able to use MyEncore 1.5B7 with the 1.6 version of Encore Pro.

Thank You Goofproof
I had the same problem too and am so glad you guys resolved it for me.
I have Encore Pro Version 1.6.22 and after spending hours of trying to get My Encore to work it finally does! I needed Version 1.5B7. I had no idea My Encore had a few different versions, confusion for me. Many Thanks!

That usually means you were not allowed access to the database because logins and/or passwords used were left BLANK or incorrect.
The login and password for MSSQL server database up to I believe version 7 was login:sa and password was the same: sa. These no longer work with later database engine versions especially version 2003.
But with all the security issues Microsoft has been hit with, they increased the security on MSSQL database (the MSDE desktop version is a form of MSSQL 2003). And as a result, now requires a higher challenge password, for example, if you changed the password from blank to encore06 it may just work for you. You have to stop and restart the MSSQL engine (service) and/or reboot.
During the install, you should have seen a "Login dialog box" when you were installing the Encore Pro software. You may have to uninstall it and reinstall the software to see it again.
Note: Install the DT3500 card reader "driver" first before plugging in the USB card reader. If it cannot find the driver after you install the software then plug in the reader, point it to d:\dt3500 (where d: is your CD-Rom containing the Encore Pro software). I am NOT positive if that directory exists on 1.6, but I know it exists on older versions of EncorePro. The EncorePro software also needs to find the card reader, so it is good to have it installed first.
As for MyEncore? When the software is FREE, I don't quite understand why someone would complain about it... Derek has done a great job with MyEncore software and he hasn't charged anyone here a single penny for it that I know of. Oh by the way, when you input a password in the EncorePro database install, write it down because MyEncore requires you to input that same password in its panel so the software can access the database just like the EncorePro sofware does.
You should first install and get EncorePro software, get it up and working before even attempting to install the MyEncore software. MyEncore is only another front end for the database, it accesses the raw data from the SQL database and presents it in it's own way.
When the database for EncorePro is up and running correctly, it should display the SQL green arrow on the system tray. You can double click on that icon and stop/start the database engine you can also select if it starts when your computer starts.
My "guess" is the answer is right in the error message you received, mainly the last part of the message "or access denied"."My Encore will close...
