Post by sleepyred » Sat Mar 25, 2006 5:30 pm

Okay - how is the best way and what do you use?

I am VERY fair skinned and can break out by just looking at tape!

Don't even know if it would work, but curious to know how you tapers - tape!

Hi Red. Try this topic, it might help. Rested Gal uses the J&J waterproof tape - only kind she can use.

I don't tape anymore, but when I did, I used something called a scar reduction patch sold by Curad. It's a very soft strechy material with an adhesive that sticks but won't rip your lips off.
Sincerely,

2" wide 3M Micropore surgical tape is easy on the skin--available at pharmacies. Bend over an inch on the ends, to leave flaps for quick removal.

sleepyred:

please give more information. you break out, but from what? irritation or oiliness? oiliness is one problem because then it may be difficult for the tape to stick. dry, easily irritated skin is a different problem. i also have very fair skin and am rubbing the hell out of it by washing it at night and not being able to use a moisturizer on top.

for dry skinlips: 3M micropore tape is cheap and good. it's paper tape. similar stuff comes in dispensers marked paper tape. if that's too irritating for your mouth, but you can handle it on your skin, i found some softer stuff called hurt-free tape that sticks only to itself, and i was planning to design something for myself using that on my mouth and paper tape on my skin. more expensive options include some of the newer band-aids/bandages designed to give moisture in the bandage/bandaid. the best is second skin moist burn pads, expensive for every night, and which may/may not require paper tape over it.

i don't know what to tell you if the problem is oily skin, but chat with your pharmacist if you need to. i was a little embarrassed telling mine that i needed to tape my mouth shut during the night, but when i explained that i had apnea and used a mask, he knocked himself out to help.
