Comfort Lite 2 Rainout and other details
Comfort Lite 2 Rainout and other details
With great interest I read Titrator and Rested Gal's reviews of the latest and greatest from Respironics. Nobody mentioned the rainout phenomenon that we Aura users have learned to love.
This mask looks so interesting that I have this "I gotta have it" response, but was wondering what to expect in terms of condensation in the short hose. Anybody have any data on this?
I like the Aura, but have had to resort to rubber bands to get a decent seal. It also leaves grooves in my scalp that are becoming more or less permanent. In any case they haven't gone away in a 24 hour period. Probably they would if I stopped using the mask. One other reason why this mask intrigues me - it seems to have a more comfortable headgear.
Also, would I be correct in assuming that the rubber bands are not going to be required with all the fine tuning modes available?

dkeat,
3 nights with the CL2 and no rain-out. Tonight I'll start to turn up the humidity to see if it holds true.
For me the CL2 headgear is less comfotable than the Aura, but you're right... no bath mat pattern on your forehead in the AM.

Wading- Which interfaces are you using? I know I want the pillows, but am unsure about the other option to try. Are you trying the nasal mas- like option?

I had my first night with the CL2, no rain outs HH set at 1. I also have the Swift and Ultra Mirage FF mask. Only one night, using the nasal pillows no seal loss and no leaks per software. This is a first. I move a lot from side to side. Very comfortable headgear compared to the Swift and no hose to deal with when you turn. Also like the air venting up instead of down. The most comfortable mask I have used sleeping on your side. We will see throught way too early to judge yet, but I like the first impression. It says in the cleaning instructions not to use alcohol or cleaning solutions containing alcohol. I don't believe the Swift or Mirage say that. I use alcohol to wipe them off sometimes. Also no moisturizers or conditioners. What should you use? About everything that I look at has some alcohol or for sure moisturizers and conditioners. Dove hand soap has moisturizers in it too. What everyone else use? Dishwashing detergent?

I've used the medium nasal pillows... the large ones also seem to work OK. I opted for the pillows rather than the direct seals because the direct seal seems as though it is a similar approach to the Comfort Curve seal which did not work for me.Saltydog wrote:Wading- Which interfaces are you using? I've used the ComfortLite 2 for only one night. No rainout with HH set on 1 and using a hose cover. The head gear is pretty comfortable. Left some marks which disappeared after awhile. No "bath mat" marks like the Aura makes on me. The adjustments on the ComfortLite 2 are great. No rubber bands or panty hose tricks as with the Aura. Think I am going to find it necessary to add a short hose between the connector on top and the hose, if I can come up with one. Final thought, I like the Aura a lot except for the way it marks my forehead but I'll probably end up using the ComfortLite 2 most of the time.

I deconstructed my Aura (and love it), and I threw away the headgear so I'm not looking at one when I ask this question:
Is there any way to put a cover over the "nubby" bottom of that headgear so a cloth is against your hair? Or would that make it slip?
I think the "deconstructed" Aura has spoiled me to where I'll never be able to tolerate headgear straps again.

Linda, I've tried placing various things under the Aura but that causes it to slip. I wear it as high as possible but it still catches a little of my forhead and really marks it. The potmarks disappear after awhile but the redness remains. Other than that, I do like the Aura.
I've read this forum for about two months and it has really helped me. I struggled with the ComforGel I was given and later a PB Adam Circuit. Many issues with both of those. On CPAP for a little less that three months so still learning.

I have to use the large pillows with the Aura but can use the medium (or large) with the CF2. I just got the CF2 yesterday but expeimented yesterday afternoon with pillows and cushions so I would be all set for bedtime. Difficult to keep a seal with the cushions although I must say the large cushion felt nice, just could not keep a seal. I suspect the old pantyhose tip or something similar might work. I'm pretty happy with the pillows.

Can anyone tell me if the nasal interface or one of the 3 available interfaces is the same one that is used by the Swift and the Aura? I'm not up on my terminology.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'd like to hear about all 3 CC2 interfaces.
I'm not successful (yet) with the Swift but if I'm going to "roll the bones" I would give the CC2 a spin - waiting to get more feedback.
Thanks,
Tom

Yes, I know that Rested Gal gave the pillows a good review. But I wonder if she actually uses it instead of the Aura.
Rested Gal? What's your 2nd opinion?

I finally took a look at a photo of the CL2. I have the orginal comfortlite and was pretty UNimpressed by its ability to seal and a few other problems it had.
Looking at the photo, it does look like they might have addressed many of the original complaints that killed the original comfortlite, and this one just might be worth checking into.
I wonder if they would let me "trade-in" a barely used CL for a CL2?
It does get a bit irritating being the testers for their prototypes for all these masks at OUR expense. ALL the manufacturers CLAIM To test the interfaces before rolling them out, but either they are flat out lying, or their method of testing is VERY flawed.
