Card Reader Question?

Post by guest 1 » Fri Feb 17, 2006 8:26 am

I have read several places here that there is problems setting-up the Card Reader with the Encore Pro software. Usually associated with the Card Reader's driver. The type of Reader is referred to as "2 factors". Everyone says do not use the CD that comes with the reader to load the drivers from. OK, all that being said here is my question: is the "2 factors" Reader the same Reader as the one you buy packaged with the Encore Pro 1.5i from CPaP.Com. My Reader is made by Infineer Inc. from Florida, P/N DT3500 USB version. I am ready to start loading software but don't want to screw it up. As member DSM said he is a software guy and had a frustrating time. I am not a software guy so I am trying to get all the advice I can before I begin, so hopefully I can gain from your pass experiences. Many thanks in advance. GLC For some reason I can not post the topic user name already used maybe I logged on twice? anyway this is GLC

I just recently did a complete, FRESH install of WindowsXP, EncorePro, The card reader drivers, and MyEncore. So I think I can help with this.

The card reader from 2factors.com is indeed the exact same card reader that is bundled with the software. DT3500 Infineer (Mako) USB version.

Assuming you have WindowsXP installed (or Win2000, but I use WinXP for this...)

DO NOT CONNECT THE CARD READER UNTIL AFTER THE DRIVERS ARE INSTALLED!

Install EncorePro first
There are good instructions for installing EncorePro and a quick search on step by step Encore Pro should bring them up for you. I'm not going to try to duplicate those instructions here as they are very well written and mine, here, wouldn't be.

The card reader drivers:

If you bought the EncorePro from cpap.com then you have a CD and there should be a setup.exe file on that CD within a folder called Utilities (may be inside yet another folder ... I don't have that CD). That should be the correct driver.

What *I* did was this:
1- go to http://www.2factors.com
2- click on the link to Desktop USB Smart Card Reader (Sliding+Postal)
3- on the resulting page at the bottom right you'll see Installers for Encore Pro. Click on that to get the driver installer for Encore Pro. NO OTHER DRIVER installation is necessary if you use that installer.
4- Run the Installer for Encore Pro that you just downloaded.

Now you have the drivers installed

NOW connect the card reader. Give windows a few moments to detect new hardware and look for drivers. You can let it look for drivers and when/if prompted you tell it to use the existing drivers. This will be the case whether you install the drivers from the Encore Pro CD or the ones from 2factors.com.

NOW start Encore Pro.

I'm at work and don't have the software running here, but explore the various preference menues within Encore Pro and you should find the one for the card reader settings. CHOOSE the USB setting. Encore Pro defaults to a serial card reader. You have to TELL it that you have the USB reader instead.

Now you should have Encore Pro working and the card reader enabled properly. Have FUN!

And if you would then like to install MyEncore, follow Derek's excellent instructions for doing so. Remember you'll need to install the dotNET Framework for MyEncore to work and that's not a small download. I'd start out with JUST getting EncorePro and the USB reader working first.

YARDBIRD, Thanks so much. I have software loaded and Reader driver from the web sight. Never could find the file on Encore CD I looked and looked. Have printed detail reports to look at before downloading the upgrade from MyEncore. Thanks again GLC

dotNET Framework ??????????? What is this? My husband and I didn't (knowingly) install this to download and install MyEncore. We simply downloaded and installed Derek's ver. 15B7 from this page:

viewtopic.php?t=6057&highlight=

Are they one and the same? I already have everything installed and running, but I keep seeing this "dotNET Framework" being talked about. I didn't do it and I didn't tell several people who are now up and running to do it. Please explain, so I know what to tell people when I try to help them in the future.

===================================================== See Below

Okay, Hubby just came in and checked the computer, and our computers have it listed as installed. So, either our XPs came with it already or it was in a Windows update. Or is it possible that it was included in the MYEncore download?

Thanks.

Yardbird,

Good list and worth being archived.

I just did a reinstall to try to get Derek's MyEncore working. Again a mess.

Having uninstalled Encore Pro & SQL Server I reinstalled both & this time didn't put a password in to access the DB.

But the previously working Card Reader no longer worked.

I reinstalled the drives yet again - rebooted 3 times but no go.

Then I remembered that in the re-install of the drivers I ticked usb & pcmcia so went into the preferences in Encore Pro & sure enough hadn't set the card device to USB. Did that but still no access.

Rebooted again still nothing. Removed the device re-connected it rebooted yet again & again for reasons I can't fathom, it could read it this time.

But sadly MyEncore still can't access the DB so will now do a reinstall of that too.

Painful painful software.

Cheers DSM

Having been thru the pain of a reinstall of Encore Pro - no password to access the DB this time, I just did a re-install of MyEncore.

One thing I notice now is that the Sql Server panel that opened on reboot is not present now.

I have run Encore Pro and loaded last nights data off my BiPap Pro2 but whilst I can see this data in Encore Pro it has a date of 1988 !?

After reinstalling MyEncore it still keeps saying it can't access the DB (I created a new one with no password).

I don't really know what to try next other than some pills to calm me down

Cheers

When MyEncore can't read the database it's usually in the way you did the setup of the database for EncorePro (I know that sounds confusing).

When you get that box that asks you what you want to do with the password, one of the choices you get basically says LEAVE IT ALONE (blank password) and talk about how that might be a security risk. THAT is the one you select. If you check anything else, then MyEncore will probably not be able to access the database. Now... my understanding is that if you are logged on as administrator, THEN MyEncore might work in those cases.

I really just followed all the other instructions posted all over the place. And it works.

Thank you, yardbird.

Your detailed instruction on how to set up EncorePro and the DT3500 reader finally got my system working. I believe the software that http://www.2factors.com sent with the reader was wrong from the start. The software on the reader page worked well. Again thanks!!! I am now trying to install and get the Myencore working. I keep getting a message "unable to access the EncorePro data base". I have seen some other postings and will try to follow their directions!

You are getting that message because you have no data in Encore Pro yet.

I assume it is Ok to install my copy of Encore Pro on two computers (my desktop and my laptop). I do not really network these together. I want it on my laptop for use during the summer when I go to my cottage every weekend. Should I do two single computer installations or the network installation and somehow sync the database? If I do the two single computer installations could I load the data from the card into the database on each one if I tell it not to erase the data?

Two single installations should be fine - we have it on both of our computers. And as long as you don't erase, you can download on either or both computers.

Are you sure that you have version 1.5b7 version of MyEncore and not an older version? Where did you download it from?
