Swift vs. Breeze Poll

Post by Jerry69 » Mon Nov 28, 2005 9:19 am

I've used the Swift for a little over two weeks and I like the way it feels and maintains a seal. But, I think it is noisy. Some on this forum have suggested the Breeze as a less-noisy alternative.

So, I've started the poll below to get feedback from those that have used both. (I haven't used the Breeze, so I won't vote, obviously).

I've never added a poll, so if this doesn't work, please excuse. I'll try again after reading directions?

Breeze vs. Swift

I think my DME is going to let me try a Breeze. If so, I'll let you know what I think.

Jerry,

The Breeze is definately quieter... but IMO the Swift is a much better interface... but the best is the AEIOMed Aura.

Sincerely,

I'm getting the Swift because it appears to most closely resemble what I'm using now. One of the most important things for me is to NOT have something going up between my eyes. So the Aura and the Breeze are out, unfortunately.

I'm not sure why that bothers me so much. I wear glasses and I know part of it because I can't wear my glasses and fall asleep watching TV with something running up between my eyes. My wife also called me SnuffleUpAgus (a Sesame Street character) when I had my first mask...which had a hose running up between my eyes.

I used the Swift for one night (I think it was just one) - it was howling all over the place for me, and, furthermore, it was uncomfortable - in my nose, for sleeping on my side, and with the exhaust blowing onto the bed clothes and adding to the interfaces basic noisiness. All in all, for me the Swift was definitely not a good experience.

But many others, as you may have noticed, really loved it.

ozij,
I'm curious as to whether you went from a "regular" mask to the Swift. I ask because while I believe that the masks are generally quieter, I'm wondering how many people that tried the Swift and didn't like the noise level, had been using a nasal pillow interface immediately prior. Kinda like... ok it's loud in relation to what?

I currently use a nasal pillow device. I'm thinking I'm already used to the noise. So ... just curious.

I've used both and I've cast my vote for the Breeze.

The Swift used to be my favorite mask. Then I tried the Breeze. In my personal experience, I find the Breeze to be much quieter than the Swift. I'd guess the degree of annoyance with the noise of the Swift is directly related to the level of pressure one requires. I'm currently at 13cms (when using straight CPAP mode).

thanks, neversleeps. My straight CPAP pressure is set at 8 on my current machine (a nasal pillow type). I had thought my equipment was being delivered today. I read the date wrong. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. So maybe after tomorrow night I'll be able to render an opinion about the noise and maybe also about my wife's take on whether it blasts her off the bed if I roll over on my side.

I currently have the Swift and like it quite a bit....but I'm on the Mask of the Month purchase plan, lol, and for this month's mask I've decided to buy a Breeze. So I can join in the discussion in a week or so.

I have the Swift, the Aura, the Activa and the Comfort Lite. I guess I'd have to say the Activa is my least favorite. The damn thing sucks onto my face so hard (talk about a good seal!..geez!) that it HURTS. And it leaves horrendous marks on my face. But no air is leaking out, that's for sure! As for the other three...I rotate them whenever one of them annoys me. Sometimes every few days...sometimes every few HOURS. Just seems to depend on my mood and how tolerant I am that day...

But after a night with the Activa recently, I got the idea of getting another interface that doesn't touch my face so much.....OUCH! Hence the new Breeze that will be coming soon....

CJ,

How does the Aura compare?

Jerry

I've only used the Swift, but I can say I don't like it and won't recommend it.

It's noisey and the ventilation blows straight out which disturbs my wife when I sleep on my favourite side (left).

The Aura is nice too. Nothing really touches your face. The air is diverted up and away from bed partners. I can't wear it "right out of the box" and get a good seal though. I have to tie something around mid-face (I use a long, thin, nylon scarf...the pantyhose thing would work too)...THEN I have a great seal and can sleep pretty much all night without fiddling with it.....and zero marks on my face when I get up in the morning. (There are other people who have fiddled with it enough that they don't need to tie it on, I think)

Can't remember the sound. That's a difficult topic for me because I LIKE the sounds of the mask, as long as it isn't high-pitched anyway....I just love white noise....Hubby likes it quieter, but we've been married for 25 years and that was a condition of the marriage...I like white noise and hate quiet. Period. He had to adjust. lol....

I have tried all of the interfaces in question here. I am with Wader, the Aura is the very best as far as noise, comfort, keeping the seal and not touching the face. Next would be the Swift and bringing up the very last is the Breeze, which is hard to adjust, feels very top heavy, hurts the nose, and is bad at blowing on the wife.
