Encore Pro and My Encore

Post by dkeat » Sat Nov 19, 2005 3:28 am

When I first got the Encore Pro Software I also downloaded the My Encore program for testing. Since then I have been trying to figure out what the difference is between the two. Apart from visual clarity, that is. My Encore certainly has a more attractive visual interface, but the data shown seems to be available from Encore Pro as well. After a few days I just stopped bothering with My Encore. Am I missing something?

David,
I originally developed MyEncore to help me understand my own situation re apap treatment. The goals were to:
1) Provide multi-download summaries that Encore Pro does not, and
2) Provide long term treatment summaries as a function of pressure - again something that Encore Pro does not do.
The software was useful to me in showing that cpap at 10 cm definitely provided better treatment than apap.

There is, of course, no data presented that are not in the Encore Pro database. For a straight cpap user there is probably less motivation to use MyEncore, except as a long term summary. I now do morning downloads, and do a quick ckeck in Encore Pro. Once I see the AHI, etc., that's all I really need.

You can really question the need for any daily checks once your xpap therapy is stable...

Thanks Derek. I will have to take what you wrote and have a closer look the next time I use both softwares. I never noticed those points. I am also using APAP and at some point the long range picture will probably be of more interest than the daily one.[/code]

If Cpap is Constant positive airway pressure, what is Apap?

APAP

I believe the "A" stands for automatic. In any case, an APAP is a machine that automatically titrates, or adjusts the pressure to your momentary needs. In other words, if you need 15 on CPAP it may only be for a few peak moments. The APAP will only give it to you if you need it, otherwise it will drop the pressure to a lower level and you may get a better rest.

Derek,

I did a search to drag up this thread. I had read it once before.
  • I use straight CPAP.
I've learned how to not erase my card when I do daily downloads, so I can get a 'Long Term Trend' report from Encore Pro
I'm currently experimenting with pressure to see the effect on AHI's, and after I settle in on that, I won't do daily reports.
So, what I'm getting at is that you needn't continue to try to figure out why My Encore can't access the database on my computer when most folks seem to be able to. I can get what I need from Encore Pro.

But, dadgumit, it is still a puzzle and a challenge I hate to give up on it.

Jerry
