Nobody mentioned that a side effect of CPAP would be I have to take up quilting. I mean I was expecting to battle with the leaks and even a little sinus irritation. Sore nostrils and maybe some cotton mouth are things I was fully prepared to handle. Entering the world of appliqués, blocks and batting were not to be found in any of the literature. Let me tell you of how I got forced onto this domestic road of perdition.
Life was grand. No more complaints from the family about my snoring. Just adding a little water and flicking a switch and heading off into blissful sleep. No more waking up in the middle of the night when the dog barked or the kids got restless. Finally I could sleep as well as the rest of them and it was someone else’s turn to handle any nightly disturbance.
Finally found a hobby that I could really get into. I now had my own special world of masks, hoses and flow charts. The special language and acronyms a pure delight and all mine. I truly did wake up every morning proud of my badges where the mask marked my nose and the straps indented my face. It was this technophile’s dream all subsidized by my health insurance.
I could tell my spouse was getting just a bit jealous of my time pursuing my hobby. So what if I did spend a lot of times reading the boards and tweaking my masks? The money I was spending was in pursuit of my health and no where near as much as the ponies took. Have to admit the masks are pretty enticing and I really didn’t think anything of it when I caught her wearing one. I should of known then my world was about to crumble.
Maybe it was for legitimate health reasons her doctor prescribed a sleep study for her, but I think otherwise. Not to be content and let me have something of my very own I swear she bribed him. Oh she feigns like this will be such a burden for her and how will she never get used to the mask. Telling me how wonderful it is having one more thing to share together.
And there I was thinking yeah just like golf, one more thing I have to give up. Don’t get me wrong I love spending time with my wife but sometimes a guy just needs to get away. I never did understand what form of madness overtook me when I said “Sure honey if you took up golf it would be so much fun to play together.” So now the clubs stand in the closet gathering dust.
So I figure its time to fight fire with fire. If we have to share all my hobbies its time I started sharing hers. The sewing room was no longer off limits and I didn’t wait to give her Bernina a spin. Then it would just be a question of time of who would give up first. I might have won but found this fabulous fabric for a log cabin quilt and couldn’t resist.

Taking up sewing
Well Mike,
You know the way this PAD A CHEEK is catching on, I might could use some extra help on the sewing end. I'd say why don't you give me a call and I'll explain my techniques and you can send a sample for quality control inspection.
I am a very fussy sewer however, no kitties or puppies around, allergies you know, no smoking in the sewing room, or in the house for that matter, can't send out stinky stuff. No strong cologne usage allowed, leave the good smells to the folks wearing the product.... you get the idea.
Well I only pay minimum wage, if that, at this time....
Maybe we could work out a trade, what is your specialty???
