SmartCard Reader Not Detected!!!
SmartCard Reader Not Detected!!!
Things I know:
1. Encore Pro installed successfully.
2. Database connectivity works.
3. SmartCard reader drivers installed correctly and device manager says it is functioning properly.
4. Encore Pro does not detect the reader.
5. Encore Pro preferences is set for usb device.
I have the same Mako/Infineer DT3500 reader that everyone else is using. I installed Encore Pro, then ran setup from the Encore Pro dvd inside the Smart Card Readers directory, rebooted. Encore Pro still can't see the reader.
Are the people that have this working running Windows XP or XP Pro with SP2?
Any suggestions, this really sucks!!!!!!
Thanks,
BP

Working fine here on XP Pro SP1 and SP2. I also installed it on a test copy of MS Vista (previously code named LongHorn..nex ver of Windows) and it works there also.
You must not plug the reader in until the drivers are installed. Then plug the reader in, follow the prompts for driver install and see if you get the "Your new hardware is installed and ready to use" dialog box. If you don't get that..you did something wrong.

Just uninstalled everything, then reinstalled Encore Pro and then setup.exe in the Smart Card Readers directory on the Encore Pro dvd.
Then plugged in the card reader. Device manager says the reader is working properly.
- In device manager is your driver called "Mako DT3500 SmartCard Reader"? This is what mine says.
This is wierd, IT SHOULD WORK!!!
BTW, biggziff, if you had to install the drivers first, why are you going through the driver install after you plug the device in? When I plug the reader in after the reboot, after the driver install, the reader is recognized.

Would someone mind going into start/all programs/mako technologies, LLC/tools/Infineer Reader Utility.
When the application comes up choose, System Information, and then do an alt-print scrn and then post the image here, or email it to bps42@hotmailXXX.com? removing the XXX beforehand.
Also, when you choose Reader Status, or Select Reader, does this work?
I would very, very, much appreciate it, don't want to have spent $130 hard earned bucks for nothing.
Thanks,
BP

BP,
Sent you what you asked for. I did try Reader Status, and it tells me Protocol Indeterminate, SCARD Unknown. As for Select Reader, if I put my arrow over it, it comes up with Infineer, Inc., USB 0.
Yawn had the same problem and uninstalling and reinstalling her software fixed it. She never found out why, but that was the only way to fix her problem. She tried for days before it was finally running and reinstalling it all was the answer.
You may want to do a total uninstall and reinstall and see if that will work. It doesn't take that long to do.
Good luck.

I have the software on order from CPAP.com and planned to order the reader from 2factors as I was advised. Just wondering why the following was given under system requirements for Encore Pro?
System Requirements
Respironics Smart Card Reader. (Other readers are not compatible with this software.)
Is this a new thing--has Encore Pro done something that would make it not work with any other reader? Or is it still OK to order from 2Factors?
Any insight would be appreciated.

The respironics card reader is the Infineer DT3500. All you need is the DT3500 from http://www.2factors.com and you're golden. Just got mine 2 days ago.

Esther, while many people have gotten this combination to work, I have not. I would be cautious buying it until I figure my problem out.
biggziff, in my experience, what should happen, is that after you have installed the drivers and rebooted. Once you plug in the device, windows should say new device found, then drivers loaded for device (since you just installed them), then device ready to use. I am paraphrasing here but essentially that's what should happen. You shouldn't have to step back through a driver install. If that is what you are saying. Don't want to put words in your mouth.
I am not a newbie at this, not saying I'm perfect or anything, but I have been a software developer for 20 years, have a Master's Degree in computer science, and have done countless hardware and software installs. There is something odd going on here, maybe things have changed with this combination recently, maybe there is an issue with my machine, etc. I don't know yet. But caveat emptor.
I'll keep you posted.
Lori, thanks for the screen shot and feedback, that helps.

Once the driver is installed it has to be associated with the device. That only happens once. You can make it do it twice with USB by plugging the device into the second USB channel as the machine looks at each 127 device channel as a seperate bus.
Either way..sounds like you have another issue. My stuff just got here this week and the install was pretty much a non-event.
I'm sure you'll figure it out...I know how frustrating it is when you want to use a device and it just won't coooperate!

BP, Hope it works out. Please let me know if you get the bugs worked out.BP wrote:Esther, while many people have gotten this combination to work, I have not. I would be cautious buying it until I figure my problem out.

Thanks for the input. Yeah it is frustrating USB is usually so easy. This is really wierd. I have given up completely on installing Encore pro for now. At this point, I'm just trying to get mako/infineers utility sofware to recognize their own device. Can't even get that to work right now. In fact right now, it won't even install at all.
