Encore Pro installation disaster! RESOLVED

Post by Simply Sue » Tue Aug 30, 2005 11:14 am

This program is giving me grief! I have spent hours installing & reinstalling. I have searched and read all prior listing I could find. I recognize most of the problems others have had but I can not seem to fix mine. I believe that each thing I've tried has made it worse. I have even used windows restore. Two weeks into this and I am asking for help.
If anyone has any suggestions......please submit.

I am going to "paste" my install notes on a separate message immediately after this one.

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Susan

Last week:

When I finally turned off....message appeared stating that encore pro was unable to close.
When rebooted message appeared:

One thought because I am not the expert like Derek or Tridens when it comes to this stuff. But are you temporarily disabling any anti-virus software you may be running on your computer when you've tried to install the program? Also, when/if you get to the card reader driver installation part, DO NOT connect the card reader until you install the Smart Card Driver files first. Then you can connect the reader to the computer. Just a couple of thoughts. Like I say, I'm not the expert, though.

So sorry to hear you're having such troubles. Nothing can be worse then stressing over computer problems. Well, some things can be, but those really are horrible. Good luck...

Thanks Lori,
I've tried all your suggestions. I can't install the card driver till I get the software working.
My dilemma is actually bigger than the bad install.
I received the BiPap pro2 via my DME 2 weeks ago at the same time I purchased a PB420E Auto to take on vacation. (I have both software programs also.)
I planned on using the BiPap as my main machine.....however after using the 420E for 1 week on vacation......I think I prefer how I feel in the am after using that one...but then again I was in Hawaii.
I am not feeling too good the mornings I've been back on the BiPap but I figured that was jet lag recovery....but that's why I need the software working.
Will do another system restore and try to install again being extra careful no other programs are running in the background.

Thanks Again!
Susan

Sue,
Are you trying to get the software working for the 420e or the bipap? I am not sure which one because I have no knowledge about the Silverlining as I'm a Remstar Auto user. Sorry if I misled you with my post and was giving you info on the Remstar. And I'm sorry you can't even get the Encorepro to work. Did you try talking with Derek, the computer whiz???

Lori,
The program I am having trouble with is Encore Pro to use with the Remstar BiPap pro 2.
Apparently it is very finicky.

The silverling software for the PB installed perfectly which makes me wonder if I should move away from the Remstar which is giving me problems.

1. The software won't load.
2. 1 week use of the Remstar and I am feeling tired......that's why I need the software to see the stats.

I hate to bother anyone in particular....I was just hoping someone knowledgable would be checking the forum at their leisure.

Susan

Sue,
Ozij, who I think is incredibly knowledgeable, wrote this post on a thread I found under a search for SQL Server. One of the things that stood out in my mind was doing a Windows Update to make sure you were up to date with all that you need. Read below and see if any of that helps you. If not, you can run a search under "SQL Server" and read the whole thread. Sorry I can't be of more help.

MSSql had a vulnerablity that was used for attacking computers running it. Microsoft patched it, and patched computers are no longer vulnerable.

1. Did you reinstall your operating system?

2. If yes, did you connect to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ? Do so if you haven't and let windows install all the security updates.

3. Make sure you've got the latest virus signatures from Symantec (and the latest antivirus progarm version) and run a full scan.

I wouldn't consider my computer secure without taking those 3 steps.

Do we really want to go there again, sthnreb? I'm still overheating from that thread. It's one of those stick-to-your-ribs discussions that doesn't just go away after you X out...

OK, I'll bite. How do you know you have a bad BiPap? I may just have bad settings.

Yes, I have all the latest updates and virus settings. I actually have 2 virus programs and an active spy sweeper which are a pain to turn off whenever I do a software install.
I also have a wireless internet and a active bluetooth transmitter that I disable when I have a difficult install.

Good suggestions, Thanks!
Susan

You are probably right. It was stressing me so I left it. Something is wrong if he can't use it. It should be easier than a cpap. I had to say something was wrong with it. Oh well, what do I know? Good luck with the software. My software works well. The card reader is sometimes tricky, the card has to be inserted just right or it errs. oh..mine is in transit now.

I don't know if this is the same problem - I posted this earlier because Fifi was having a terrible time:
As many of you will have read in her thread, Fifi and I have been struggling for the past few days to get Encore Pro running on her computer. Each time she would get a message:

"Unable to Load MSDE successfully Please Contact Respironics For Support."

and of course we all know that Respironics will not assist end-users.

I'm pleased to report that we have fixed the problem It is not documented anywhere in the Encore Pro instructions, so I will outline it here in case others have the same problem.

It turns out that in order for the Microsoft SQL Desktop Server (MSDE) to install and function in Windows XP you must have File and Printer Sharing enabled in your networking set-up. This is an option that you set up when you configure your computer for networking and, although it may seem strange, it makes sense when you understand how a SQL server works.

If you have this problem when installing, go to
Settings -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection
and click the Properties... item under the General tab. On the next window, in the box under the General tab you should see a checked item "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
If it is not there you must install it as follows:
1) Click the Install... button.
2) On the next window click on Service to highlight it, then click the Add... button.
3) On the next window click on File and Printer Sharing and OK

This should do it, and you should now be able to install Encore Pro.

Good luck.

Yeah Lori, Derek is here.
Derek, I have gone through the postings in the past by doing a search on Encore Pro Installation and found the above mentioned.
My printer and file settings are checked.
I have lots of HD space, I have weird results in my C:\programs........
Please look at my 2nd posting on this link. It has all my install notes (& notice that there is no Install.log file so I can't do a formal uninstall).
The services show mssql but MS Server does not show up in ADD & Remove.

Thanks for your help....I am at my wits end and about to give up Encore.

Susan
