Any body else had difficulty installing encorepro software?

Post by Fifi » Sat Jul 16, 2005 10:27 am

Hi I have just received my remstar auto with cflex. Used it for the first time last night.

Today I am having problems installing my encore pro software. After I tried to install it a window came up on screen saying installation failed and to contact respironics.

Has anybody else experienced this and have they managed to solve it?

Couple of quick easy things to look for...Temporarily disable any firewall and anti-virus programs before you do the install. Another thing is to make sure file and print sharing is enabled. Try these first then post if you're still having problems.

Thanks Jim I have done that and it still won't install on my computer!

What a pain. Hope I can get round this somehow. I am beginning to despair

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. Did you try to uninstall both Encore Pro and MS SQL through add/remove programs (if anything installed) before you tried new install with disabled firewall? Assume you're running Client for Microsoft Network already... Next best thing is to PM Derek at privmsg.php?mode=post&u=754 as he's the resident expert on Encore Pro plus his My Encore software is a terrific add on to really be able to interpret your data. See viewtopic.php?t=3278

Whilst Trying To install the encorepro software for the REMsar Auto, the following message comes up:

The Database Engine (MSDE) for encore Pro is being installed, This could take 5 mins or more to complete.

Next window:

Unable to Load MSDE successfully Please Contact Respironics For Support.

I have tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it.....nothing! Really frustrating. Anybody else out there experience the same problem???????

Help please.

I almost hesitate to ask this, since it probably seems rather silly to point out the obvious, but have you done what the prompt tells you to do?

Fifi.
Let's continue in public so that others can see what we're doing. To summarize. in your PM's you said that you are running XP Pro, and that you have been able to install ok on another machine. So - it must be something to do with your machine. As I said the MSDE is the Microsoft Server SQL Desktop Engine, so the problem is obviously with installing that.
Here are some suggestions:

1) Have you tried the installation while logged-on as Administrator, or with an account that has Administrator privileges? Some software, particularly system software, requires admin privileges for installation.

2) Is there a copy of the SQL server already installed and running (as a service)? Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Scroll down the list and look for MSSQLSERVER. It should NOT be there. If it is, make sure that at least the status is STOPPED. I believe you will get an error if you try installing over a service which is running. If it is there and you are not running any software that uses the server, then remove it through the Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs", and try again. Did you chack for the existence of the server in C:\Program Files\.... as I asked in my PM?

3) This is probably a silly question, but do you have plenty of space on your C: drive?

Let us know if any of this helps.
Derek

Excellent idea Derek to attempt to deal with this on the board, as I have done a search to see if the topic has come up in the past, but with no success.

It is very worrying the fact that if we do not manage to sort it out, Respironics will not and I will be in deep hot water!

The answer to question 1 is yes I am logged in as an administrator.

Answer to question 3 masses of space on my C drive.

I am now going to tackle question 2 and I will report back as soon as I have done it.

Many thanks

Dear Derek this is what i have found

1) MSDE will not install
2) MSSQLSERVER is not there, however MSSQLServerADHelper is present, startuptype manual, status stopped.
3) lots of space
4) encore pro appears in add/remove programs but MSSQL does not
5) encore pro only installs two files, INSTALL.LOG and Unwise.exe

Many thanks

Fifi,
Would you please email me your Encore Pro "install.log" file, either by attaching it, or by cutting and pasting the contents into the body of the email. (The install.log file keeps a track of each action during the installation - the cause of the problem might well be documented in the file. You can read it with Notepad).
(I've included my email address in my profile - a button should be at the bottom of this message) - whoops I guess you cannot attach a file through the email button... can you cut and paste?
