Dry Mouth.... help

Post by Hanifen » Tue Jun 28, 2005 7:18 am

I have been using my CPAP religiously for about a year now and I think it has helped. I am not a new person but much better than I was. Yes I too think the Breeze is WONDERFUL. I without a doubt get a better night sleep with it than I have anything else. My problem that has come up when I started with the breeze is that when I wake up in the morning my mouth is dry. Not just slightly dry but EXTREMLY dry and everything is stuck together. I ask my wife if she hears me open my mouth at night and she says no. So why is my mouth getting so dry? I have tried adjusting the humidifier but no change. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hanifen

She may not see your mouth open but you are still getting air escaping through your mouth. Best way to test this is by taping your mouth shut and seeing how you are in the morning. A little of this won't hurt, and just keep a little water at bedside, or they make a hydrating gum or lozenge that will keep your mouth moist. Good luck1

MouthKote or maybe a Silent Nite dental appliance should take
care of your problem.

Since it is summer here, I thought I would switch from the heated hose to a regular hose but I ended up with a dry mouth so it's back to the heated hose. I am using a humidity setting of 3 with a Remstar heated humidifier and find it comfortable.

I too use a Breeze and really like it. I can roll around and do not have any problems with leaks. I know exactly what you are talking about with extremely dry mouth. I had the same problem when I started out. For me, a chin strap was all it took to solve the problem. Occasionally, I still will wake with dry mouth but not nearly as bad. I believe it is air escaping through my mouth, not breathing air in.
Hope this helps.

I drink a 12 oz bottle of water right before bed and use a chinstrap to keep the mouth shut. It has been a tremendous improvement in the dry mouth department.
