Question about Breeze Mask/SleepGear
Question about Breeze Mask/SleepGear
I have a Resmed S7 Lightweight with humidifier and Swift pillows. I'm having trouble sleeping because I sleep on my side, and every time I move the headgear moves and I wake up. I've done some research here and on CPAP.com, and I'm very interested in the Breeze products. They seem perfect for side sleepers like me, because the hose goes over your head instead of off to one side. That seems perfect for people who change from side to side during the night.
Does anyone have any experience with the Breeze Mask or SleepGear (with pillows)? I'm trying to decide between the two.
And can I assume that either will work with my machine?
I appreciate any responses. And I REALLY appreciate all I've already learned from everyone on this board. What a wonderful resource!

I spend quite a bit of time on my side and have no problem with the Breeze. It is very accomodating with the hose up and out of the way. I leave enough slack in the hose so I can turn to either side without pulling, yanking, etc. which could disturb my sleep. Exaust air is straight out. An issue for some is the hard plastic head piece which only is a potential problem if you sleep on your back...doesn't seem to bother me at all whenever I'm on my back...probably my hard head

Personally, I found the Breeze headgear moved all over the place no matter how I slept. And the pressure on my upper lip drove me crazy. Couldn't adjust the nasal plenum far enough out to make a difference.
I have used the Swift for 6 months and love it for side sleeping. You put the hose on the side you usually don't sleep on. If you use a hose cover it is soft and you won't even notice it if you do change sides. Also be sure to follow the directions on the CD to wear the headgear loose. If you are using the right size nasal pillows you aren't going to have any problems with leaks because the headgear moves. By loose, I mean enough to be able to put 2-3 fingers flat on your head under the bands. You can then wiggle that barrel around all over the place and the seal won't break. Also look at the illustration that comes with the Swift about moving the barrel back and forth to get exactly the right 'fit". It makes a difference with the noise level too. I found the Breeze noisier, unlike some, than the Swift.

Breeze pillows
I just started on straight CPAP 8 nights ago. I was able to try out the pillows in the pulmonologist's office even though I did the titration study with something else. It is very comfortable as I sleep on my side as well, usually my left side. I have only felt rested one night so far though, but it just may be a matter of time and adjustment.
My nose was initially a little sore when I started with the Breeze, but with using a light coating of the Ayr gel it seems to have stopped. I guess the medium pillows must be the right size then?
What I can't figure out is that the fit of the system seems to change night to night. I thought once I got it the way I wanted it that it would stay that way! It's small adjustments to be truthful, but annoying that it takes so long fiddling with it and I'm losing sleep! Maybe it's just inexperience on my part though. My pressure is only at 5 but it seems to leak some if I don't keep messing with it. The straps are either too loose or the clip thingie won't stay in place. What am I doing wrong?? Also, is there some way to attach the hose to the top of the headgear so it is easier to turn side to side?? Couldn't it be tied on so it goes straight back?
Help, I don't know anyone on CPAP so I really appreciate you guys!

The Breeze masks I'm looking at have the hose connected at the front of your forehead; none of the mask/headgear is on the sides. I think it's brilliant!

The hose is attached to the top; it looks like you could easily sleep on either side. You probably couldn't lay on your back at all, but I can't do that anyway.

One soft, sweet song's just enough to clear my head...

I have the nasal pillows, not the DreamSeal. Other than sore nostrils when I first started (now use Simply Saline Nasal Moist Gel - Walgreens) I've found it quite comfortable. Its difficult at best to know what to buy unless you can try before you buy. The DME started me with the Breeze and I've added a Mirage Ultra Full Face, and an Activa Nasal Mask since. I got both those on faith after looking at the pictures online and following comments on this forum. Love the Activa to alternate with the Breeze and can tolerate the Full Face Mask (for when I have a cold or such).

Assume hose movement was intentionally made that way but I've thought about adding something as well...maybe something as simple as one of those plastic wire wraps done loosely or a strap of some kind?? I've got my straps set PRETTY LOOSE and put it on and take off without ever messing with the straps. What clip thingie are you talking about? Can just use scotch tape to hold the two major adjustments to prevent them changing once you get them set the way you like. Also make sure you're using the nasal pillows shell adjustment to fine tune placement just barely into your nostrils.

The one I have is https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1841
You can buy just the bottom shell part (DreamSeal) to swap out with the nasal pillows if you want...save a few bucks.
Also women from what I've seen on this forum tend to use the smaller nasal pillows https://bb4b1663da2f8a31ea1b-be9b2e315e ... lows_2.jpg and
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1827 Maybe order with the small and medium nasal pillows.

The clip is something that is listed as optional in my manual. The DME set it up after the original strap did not seem secure enough to me. Instead of having one end of the strap hooked up to those wings sticking out, it is attached to this clip that can be moved by notches further back on the apparatus. It doesn't move that easily so I don't think it can just migrate on its own.
Do you mean the screw adjustment when you refer to the nasal pillow shell adjustment? He didn't even mention it when the equipment was brought. Does it alter the angle that the pillows enter the nares?
I appreciate the help!

The manual list it as a wing knob (pg 3). Yes, adjust it to get best angle and then tighten it. I left it loose initially thinking I'd let it float but it put too much pressure on lower part of nostrils and touched just under nostrils which bugged me. Tended to not seal as well either. My straps go from Outrigger to the Cradle. Do you have just one size nasal pillows...what size?

The Breeze with nasal pillows is one of my all time favorites. I'm a toss 'n turn sleeper, sleeping mostly on either side.
I'm not so sure that most women would need the "Small" (blue color) nasal pillows with the Breeze. I have a small nose and small nares (nostril openings) but I find the "Large" nasal pillows more comfortable and more leakproof for me. I'd suggest getting Medium (clear color) and Large (mint green color) pillows. Whatever size you use, the nasal pillows should not have to be crammed up into the nostrils to get a good seal. They should sit outside and against the openings to the nostrils, with only the very tip of the pillows being slightly inside the nostrils.
The section that is most likely to slip easily out of adjustment is in the headgear's "spine" up at or above the forehead. Once you get that section slid in or out the way you want it, you could run tape around that spot to keep it from sliding in and out again.
I put the side straps down much lower than even the lowest slot in the "track" in front. I don't even attach the straps to the clip that fits in the track. Instead, I stick the straps to themselves across the front of the hose, down quite low. This picture I've retouched shows how far down in front I place the side straps on my Breeze:

I run the main air hose from the machine through a stretchy fabric ponytail "scrunchy", hanging on a hook I placed in the wall above the head of my bed. Think of a fish on the end of a slack line...lets me turn easily from side to side without the Breeze's hose getting in the way, and without the weight of the main air hose tugging at the headgear.
I also have a ponytail scrunchy doubled around the top of the headgear to hold the Breeze's short connector hose "on track" a little farther along the top of the headgear, before it starts the upward route to the hook on the wall.
Good luck.

The hose on my Breeze was always popping out of the back clip and I had to use silk tape to tape it down. I never could get the nasal plenum adjusted so I didn't have a lot of pressure on my upper lip.
As far as the Dreamseal goes, it is not as good as the nasal pillows. Most people hate it.
I and a few others had problems with the headgear wearing our hair off and breaking it down the midline, too, another reason I gave it up for the Swift.
If you buy a Temperpeutic pillow you won't even notice the hose on the side of the Swift, and like I said before, get a mini-wrap to cover the short hose and it feels downright cushy!
