I have been reluctant to order the kit as I am very sensitive to many scents. (When my husband is reading a magazine with one of those cologne ads stuck in it, my nose stops up). So I need something very mild - not at all spicy but can't tell which would work for me without sniffing.

I've had a number of people contact me about wanting to try pur-sleep but being worried about the "Foo Foo" effect--being sensitive to commercial smells like Yankee Candle, colognes, and perfumes. I try to explain that natural aromatics are quite a bit different than those kinds of products but I thought I'd post one of the questions and let others respond here--good, bad, or otherwise.

I'd be happy to answer this potential customer! I, too, am very sensitive to smells of any kind. I haven't been able to wear any scented deodorant, perfumes, etc. for over 25 years. So, I was reluctant to try the Pur products. But I kept reading of other poster's pleasant experiences and decided to risk it. Best CPAP decision yet.
Using two drops every night for the best, longest sleep in years. I haven't tried all of the scents offered because I didn't have to. Peace brings me the best, longest sleep. Spice feels comforting. I am prone to migraines and the essential oils do not trigger migraine. One idea I want to stress is not to judge the effectiveness or if you will like the treatment by just smelling the open bottle. I always thought I hated lavender, but Peace has proven to be the most effective for me.
I will never sleep without a PUR oil again. Honest.

I have severe allergies and sensitivity to smells including orders such as natural cedar (we have a nearby plant that grinds up cedar for animal bedding), many flowers such as roses, peonies, lilacs, lavender, spices, herbs to name a few. These are all natural products that will trigger my allergies and asthma.
I am sensitive to "chemical" smells such as after-shave, deodrant, soaps, fabric softener, shampoo, hair spray, cleansers, make-up to name a few that trigger my allergies and asthma.
I LOVE fresh scents and there are SOME that I can use -- but it is very limited.
I wish that a small piece of cotton could have the scent infused in it and you could use for samples. I can usually tell as soon as the package is open and so it wouldn't need to be a lot of the scent to trigger most truly allergic reactions. I know this isn't practical as it would be an expensive under taking.
So for the time being I am passing on PUR-SLEEP due to the cost (if you can't use it -- it is expensive) and not being to tell if a scent is going to trigger my asthma.
Oh by the way, I had a deviated septum fixed in 1990 and it made my migraines and allergies so much worse that it WAS NOT worth it for me -- would I have done today? NO way!!

I would not consider myself to be "very sensitive" to the commercial maybe just sensitive, except for those plug in things and they are terrible. I am very tolerant of pursleep and don't sleep without them, have room in my qt. bag for a couple of bottles when I travel. Clear is the base EO and then I mix in other EOs, except for Rose, just flat don't like it. I don't show favoritism for the remaining oils, I use them all and my sleep is great w/100% compliance for over 90 days. As previously stated smelling the bottle does not do the aroma justice. Needs to be wafted down the hose for the best effect.
I'm now waiting for puraire to come up with a more manly effusion burner and then I'm going to try the EO fuels. I think they are going to be a good thing for aroma therapy also.
Best regards,
Frede

I have been very senstive to scents. Everything (or at least it seemed that way) triggered my asthma. Some asthma issues were put under control and then the sleep problems were put under control. Because I now can tolerate natural scents I was interested in trying Pur-sleep.
I have been using it for about 3 months. Doesn't trigger my asthma at all. (too bad we cannot have pursleep make perfume with essential oils..
I would say try the starter kit. It is worth it.

I have asthma, and most modern scents and perfumes give me migraines. I use PurSleep every night. My favorites are Peace, Comfort, Clear, and Spice. So far, no problems at all.
They do not trigger any asthma or headaches in me.
I have found that even though when I sniff the bottle I don't instantly LOVE the smell, as in, "OO!!! I want to slather myself in this!" it grows on me. Comfort and Peace together are just a nice background scent that I hardly notice once my mask is on, but they help me sleep deeply, and mask any plastic smells or bad smells in the room. Sort of like an air neutralizer, but without that horrible chemical smell.
So, that's my two scents worth. An easy way to test drive the PurSleep is to just buy one or two of the oils, not the pads or the holders, and put them on cotton balls. The small bottles are very inexpensive. If you find you don't like them, sell or swap them on the forum. I've traded scents with several forum members now.
Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Thanks all. By the way I noted a pur-sleep thread on the sleepapnea.org forum the other day. I haven't posted on it. The last time there was a pur-sleep thread on that forum a few people just about had a seizure when I tried to respond to some questions and resolve what I felt to be unfounded criticism. In any event there's at least some mis-information on the thread--I'm trying to figure out if I dare try to clear it up....

i've always been extremely senstive to scents, and was reluctant to try pur sleep...but i've been using it for months now and have had no problem with headaches or sneezing or any of the symptoms i normally experience from say, scented candles, air fresheners, pot pourri etc.
i will say that the clear seems to stimulate my mind or something as i always seem to have nightmares when i use it (obviously i don't use it any more, lol) and now i use the fresh with great success...i also like the spice and the creme

I've had the same experience as Sharon. If I use Clear by itself, my senses are overstimulated and my dreams are crazy. But if I mix it with another scent, it seems to take the edge off, and I sleep peacefully.
I was skeptical that blowing a natural fragrance in my nose would have that big an impact, but we've also used natural products for years that have been helpful, so I thought I'd give Pur-Sleep a try. Until about a week ago, used Pur-Sleep every night. Then I decided to try a little experiment, and went two weeks without using Pur-Sleep. I pulled my mask off (in my sleep) almost every night, and woke up feeling like crap.
So Pur-Sleep is back as a main staple of my nighttime routine.
Along with all the great advice on this forum, Pur-Sleep was the other tool that made my transition to CPAP workable.
If you're struggling, I'd suggest giving it a try. It can't hurt.
