Twilight NP decapitation

Post by Vonon » Fri Jun 22, 2007 10:21 pm

Could somebody post a picture of a decapitated Twilight NP? I've really liked mine right out of the box but always looking for "even better". Can't imagine how all those adjustments stay in place without the plastic "lockbox".

Also, there are some tiny holes in the nasal pillow area in addition to the ones that point up near the box. Are those designed to help clear out CO2?

NO! They should not be there.

Vonon, I think what you're seeing that appear to be tiny holes in the nasal pillows area are not really holes. Kind of an optical illusion from the mold the pillows were formed in, I think...looks like holes but aren't. If you take a toothpick or something and try to gently insert it through the "hole", I think you'll find it's solid there.

Unless yours really DOES have an injury there... cat claw, puppy tooth?

Pictures of some decapitated Twilight NP's are in a few of the first links at this page:

Here is a picture of mine without the unnecessary parts from the manufacturer.

I do add the stretchy pantyhose straps, but this is the way it looks without those. I also added a cover for the hose to help with the rainout issue. I even made a cover for the part that goes on the side of the nose.

I have tried lots of other masks and this one is the most comfortable for me. It it lightweight and although you can hear the inhale/exhale sound, the exhaust is very quiet and doesn't hit pillows or whatever. It weighs almost nothing.

Yikes! I checked the pillow area where I thought there were small holes. No holes! No doubt a good thing but it means that the air I'm sometimes aware of coming from that area must be leakage. Perhaps the rubberband fix will take care of that.

Thanks for the pictures and links. I appreciate all the help I've received here from answers to questions I and others have asked. We're all in the same boat.

Vonon, I pull the upper portion of the pillows closer together with paper tape. I pull until the pillows themselves touch each other. I get a much better seal that way with no leakage.

Note: the older Aura pillows just had bendable wire in them. But the newer pillows also have a clear plastic piece in them in addition to the wire. It's a little harder to pull the pillows closer together, but can be done.

I decap'd mine after the very first night..

As others have said... it is very lightweight and I don't mind wearing it at all. Even while watching Tv in bed before falling asleep.

I usually use just one 'pantyhose' strap which is tied around at my forehead. Making the Twilight interface very non-evasive.

The only thing I needed to do was rig a 'hose' guide /holder in my bed's headboard. Since the hose will tend to 'flop' around more without the original headgear box.

CPAP therapy started on 5/5/07.

Modifying the Twilight NP

Ok, I'm getting up my nerve! I can do this. Will let you all know when I do the deed. Probably before my next bedtime. Kathy

Ta-Da! No more hot rubber headpiece. Going to the store to get the 3M cord bundler to hang on the wall above my head to control the hose. In the middle of the decapitation, the guy who prints t-shirts for my daughter and her husband's business walked in. He's printed some of the apnea shirts, and he had heard me talk about my cpap setup, but never seen it. His reaction was, "Wow, you really are a hosehead, aren't you!" Yep, guess I really am.
