Problem with Aura and Remstar Auto

Post by Mikesus » Tue Mar 29, 2005 5:48 am

Well had my first night with the Aura and it wasn't too bad other than the pressure topping out on my Remstar Auto. Downloaded the data, and it only has 1.5 hrs on it even though I slept 8. Anyone else see this happen? Wondering if my Remstar Auto doesn't like my Aura

Mikesus,

I've slept 19 nights using my aura and I've never had it not register. My AHI is slightly better with the aura/REMstar combo than with the Swift/REMstar combo. I wonder if your smartcard was not fully engaged and lost its connection part way through the night.
Sincerely,

Mike, so far we've only seen this "missing time" phenomenon happen in cases of alien abduction.

Seriously, that is very strange. How did the data look during those 1.5 hours? Relatively normal? Remiss of sleep events?

Dunno... I wonder if I slept on the thin connecting hose or something... (I did the hook trick to hold the hose up so...)

I did add the extra strap like RG did for stabilizing it, don't know if I needed it, but I didn't get leaks. I had bought a Mirage FF mask off Yahoo that was intended for a sleep study and it came with an extra set of head gear made by Respironics. I cut that in half and looped the velcro ends over the supports on the forehead piece as RG showed. At 14.5, I didn't have leaks.

I did notice that the aerophagia was a lot less, even though the pressure maxed out. So maybe a Full Face mask isn't the best idea for aerophagia.

I still feel rested, and no marks on my face so I am definately not giving up on it!

I just received an e-mail today stating my back-ordered Aura would be arriving tomorrow so naturally after reading your post I am concerned as I also have a Remstar Auto. I will certainly be watching for further posting and follow-up from you concerning this issue. I do not have the Encore software or card reader so I won't have access to that information when I start using mine. I hope your incident turns out to just be a fluke for the one night. I feel my next purchase shoud definitely be the Encore software and card reader. Thanks for sharing the info.

Well rest easy. It was some sort of fluke. I reset my card so if it was a problem with the card it should have taken care of it. (it appears to as I got readings for the entire night!)

I had the lowest leak level since getting APAP (avg 25.26)

I also had the LOWEST AHI since starting APAP (0.8 !!)

The other very interesting thing is that my average pressure was lower. Only a few times in the night did I need to go to the highest pressure, with my Ultra Mirage I would spend about 1/2 the night at the higher pressures. The strange part is that when it does crank up, it is waking me up... Same thing happened in the beginning with the Ultra Mirage so I am thinking that will subside after a while.

Hey Mike,

Sounds like now that you have the bugs worked out, you are getting the same great results that I have gotten... Slightly better than with my other interfaces.

I'm going up to pick mine up today. Now if this doesn't work out for me or if I just can't get along with this mask, is there anyone who would be interested in buying it from me?

I am an extremely clean person, just so you know I'm not some gross slob.

Thanks

Aura arrived today

Post by felineperson3 » Wed Mar 30, 2005 7:47 pm

Tonight will be my first with the Aura! I hope my results will be as favorable as most of the ones I've seen posted so far. I did notice that I had to move the slide adjustment as tight as it will go to get the nasal piece to fit in the nares closely so I'm hoping no further adjustment length-wise is needed or I'm in trouble. I must have a short face. Anyway, I'm anxious to try it and I will let you know how it goes so the ones sitting on the fence about trying the Aura will have another report to help them with their decision.

Peaceful sleep to all.

Thanks, Mikesus, for your follow-up report from your smart card reading.

Does this mean that nobody at Aeiomed (located in Minnesota) tried the aura?

My report on the Aura

Post by felineperson3 » Fri Apr 01, 2005 8:38 pm

I did not sleep well with my new Aura on the first night--too many interruptions with leaks. The second night I bent the wires until the nose piece conformed to my nose better and that seem to do the trick and I didn't have any problems with leaks. I can't compare the sleep data since I don't have the software yet. I am anxiously awaiting the availability of XL nasal seal from Aeiomed. When they have that I think they will have the best nasal pillow system that I have tried so far which includes the Swift and the Breeze. The Aura is so very comfortable and non-restrictive.

Wishing all restful sleep!
