Nasal masks - Swift, SNAPP, Lyra or Infinity

Post by gofixit » Mon Mar 28, 2005 6:04 pm

Has anybody tried the new Infinity nasal mask form Fisher & Paykel?
How about the SNAPP by Tiara?
How about the LYRA by Viasys?
How about the Swift by ResMed?

Thanks for any help

Why did you leave out the new Aura? Once the Xlarge cushions come out, it will be the best mask period!

Don't think I want the big headgear.

I tried a Lyra - awfully leaky for me. It's not one I'd recommend, but of course everyone's mileage varies.

Swift was good. I didn't use it much though, because of the way the exhaust is so prone to hit bedcovers and be even noisier than it already is. But it sealed well and was comfortable enough. The cylinder at the nostrils tended to get shifted if it got against my head pillow. I'm a side sleeper and turn often.

Breeze is wonderful. Stays put great for me with the side straps used at about eyebrow level.

Aura is the best, imho, and is now my favorite. I also have to add side straps at eyebrow level. It's surprising how light and unobtrusive the Aura's headgear feels, considering how bulky it looks in pictures.

Haven't tried the Infinity or the Snapp.

I use the Swift and love it. I can sleep in pretty much any position and it will not leak. I am not a particularly restless sleeper but I do switch from side to side and occasionally sleep on my stomach.

I've used the Snapp. Found the better position for me was to have the hose go over my head rather than down my chest. It was much more stable this way when I moved around from side to side.

Everything considered, IMO the Snapp is better than OK, but I think you should at least consider the Aura as your first choice, before you try the others. And maybe the existing large size pillows would work for you.

Unfortunately, I don't know how you can determine if the large pillows work for you unless you buy from the cpapsuperstore.com. They give full credit if you are not happy with the Aura (and only the Aura).

I posted on this list the question: Does cpap.com accept my return of the Aura like cpapsuperstore does?, and got no answer. Don't really understand why they don't reply, because they monitor this list.

But "th"s posts tell us you don't lose anything (ex postage) if you get the Aura from cpapsuperstore. To me, that is a great deal.

Hope this help, Andy

The Infinity Interface is a neat little gadget !! It's very quiet and extremely light weight. The nose piece/pillows come in 4 sizes. (extra small....small....med....and large) It also has a very thin rubber strap that goes around the back of your head (and is surprisingly stable) No other straps !!! Sounds great !!
Well......it has one major flaw. Once the hose is connected, it makes the nose piece much too heavy, thus causes the tubing/pillows to pull down, causing a breakage of the seal. I tried to rig up some type of "hanging hook" or should I say...Dangling Hook, that hangs from my headboard down right in front of my face. This takes most of the weight off of the nose piece............After about 3 nights of torture.........I gave up.
I "Torched" off a letter to Fisher & Paykel but never did hear back from them. (and probably won't)
I wouldn't buy it until someone can prove that it works. It really has some neat features but unfortunately I don't think it was tested using real people.
