Aura arrived!

Post by Mikesus » Mon Mar 28, 2005 5:37 pm

Ok, I am now a member of the Aura club!!

First impressions:

It is soooo squishy!! Doesn't feel intrusive at all!! Was able to test at 14.5 (my highest pressure and not get leaks) No tight straps, nothing touching your face!

Biggest downside so far:

Compared to my Resmed Ultra Mirage FF Mask, it is NOISY! Looking at the vent, they should have made it out of silicone... The netting might work, need to find some...

Couple of suggestioms to those having trouble with leaks.

You need to wear it tilted WAAAAY back. The strap in the back works better if it is very low towards your neck. this puts the lockbox above your hairline (or where it used to be ) The straps at the top going from the sides to the lockbox thingie can't be real tight. If they are, you will pull the cushion out of your nose. Also, you MUST adjust the wire in the cushion to the shape of your nose, or they will not sit under your nares.

All in all, it is very comfortable, and will be nice not to wake up with marks on my face. If it were as quiet as my Ultra Mirage FF mask, it would be the best mask period!

I was so excited to get my new Aura last Friday night. And then after three nights of leaking every time I moved my head, I was so tired that I switched back to my Swift nasal pillows and took an Ambien vacation Monday night. Feeling human again. I was sooooo disappointed. Thanks, Mike, for the tips. I must be doing something wrong. I did try to add straps per RG's sketch, but it still leaked. I am looking at those wires in the nose tube and wonder how much and how I should bend those to fit without wrecking it. I won't give up, but it really makes me mad that we have to try to add HOKEY straps to make this thing work. Sacrified a pair of pantyhose in the process. What am I doing wrong? I LOVE the design of the mask as it is sooooo comfortable. I have a normal to small face, pressure is 9. But ???? waaaaaa

As I understand it, those wires in the tubes are supposed to be bent to fit each individual. That's why they made it that way. Bend 'em !

Also try the large pillows if you haven't. If you have, try the extra large whenever they get some made.

Could just be the swift is better for you?

good tips, I will take when I get mine. Hope it's better than the breeze. I am used to the swift, swapped my n/ pillows up from med. to large, and as RG can attest, it is better, sealing nose completely, less leaks. Got the software so I can monitor daily how I'm doing.

Also weaned myself OFF COMPELTELY from Ambien. Feel better.

Now tell my brain to go to sleep, next hurdle.

haa.
Will keep u posted on the aura experience. I get aura's prior to a migraine, hope this damn thing is better than THOSE!

Lynn, or anyone else please send me what you think went wrong and why and I will forward this on to AeioMed. I too had leaks at first and then when I was working with it... this is what I found out for me. I hope this works out but here are my impressions so for

I do not know how the mask will do all night but I am going to give it a try. This is what I found to stop the leaks at 6 or 9 for me. Before you start the machine take your index finger and push each pillow up into your nose then turn your machine on it holds a seal then. But to me when you do that I believe the mask is about like using the Breeze mask. You lose that good feeling of the pillow just staying just right outside of your nose. I need to spend several nights maybe even a week before I pass any judgment on this mask. I found out that new masks are just like new shoes. They need a break in period. They do not feel exactly right and feel odd to you but after a week they feel like they belong on your feet. (in this case nose)I do not know if this is what is happening or not. The seal with large pillows was so good like this, turning the machine off and un hooking the mask I could walk around the house with the pillows still sealed........I will check my numbers tomorrow

Do keep us posted, I am about to pull the trigger on one for myself. I have not used pillows yet, have been using the Activa but would like a change of pace. The noise factor worries me.

I like the noise of a fan or humidifier running at night so I don't think it would bother me.

I have to go through DME so it is paid by insurance. I'd like to at least give it a try.

I'll keep everyone updated.

I like the noise of a fan as well but I have a nasalair I that drives me nuts as it's a very different sound. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I drive my husband nuts, I love the fan blowing right on me on high. If its in my face, even better. But he doesn't go for it.

I'm curious about this mask. I tried the Breeze and Swift and didn't like the jammed up my nose feeling, other than that I think it was okay from memory, which isn't too reliable these days.

You were probably using pillows that were too small. If you use large enough pillows, once you have the machine on and have gotten a good seal, you should be able to gently pull down on the interface until you can barely feel the pillows. This is what I have done and at times I wake-up feeling as though I don't even have a mask on.

Up-sizing my pillows was a tip I got from rested gal and I will be forever grateful. Much better advice than up-sizing my meal at McD's.
Sincerely,

I get my Aura today. I will use it tonight and give you guys another perspective. I have been a CPAPer since January and do not have any issues with the mask I currently have (I forget what model mask I have but it's the standard over the nose type).

Hi Jeb/Underdog

Please do share with us. I'm hoping you are a male and the name Jeb is your name and not initials and let me know if the pillows fit you. I am oh so close to ordering one.
