I talked to Howard Lyons(Sales and Customer Service) of Aeiomed today on adapting the Aura to individual head and nose shapes.
First of all, when asked, he said that the only reason the Aura was not recommended in the user booklet for use with AutoPAPs is that they have not officially tested it yet, but he felt there was no reason it shouldn't work.
When I explained some of the difficulties I was having, he suggested that I bend the nosepiece to more accurately fit my nose structure. He said that the unit was designed for this purpose and that the DME's were providing this service for their customers. Yeah, right. What a joke, but I didn't pursue that with him. At any rate, right out of the bag, it sounds like it needs to be adapted to each individuals facial and nose structure.
He also mentioned that everyone will need to adjust the two sliding bars to fit their needs and that the XL nose units won't be out until the 3rd quarter of this year and that it will be a separately purchaseable part. I told him they should be available now, and he said that was good to know.
I'll go back to tinkering and hopefully get it worked out.

Paul,
Thanks for contacting Aeiomed and posting this information. I think part of the problem with the availability of the XL seals is that we have gotten this unit at it's earliest release. My guess is many DMEs will not see one of this till later this year when all the seals will be available. As far as how to adjust the unit, included in Ted's review and my early comments was the statement regarding the bendable embeded wires. What I have done for myself is to stand in front of the mirror and adjust the wires to optimize the aspect and spread of the pillows. There is no other nasal pillow interface for which you have this option.

Thanks, wader. I'm just about to do that. I think that feature is amenable to customizing this for our individual needs. The only reason I didn't do it on my first night was just false hope on my part that it would work right out of the box.
