Quattro Mirage Full Face Mask ?? Where?

Post by ddpelp » Wed May 09, 2007 7:35 pm

Seems some web sites are saying they have the product to ship yet they really do not .. some even say shipping end of May. Yet I have read of at least two folks here have got the new mask.

Who is the online sellers that are actually selling the product and have in stock to ship right away??
Thanks

I hope my DME (Apria) will be able to get it. I am up at the end of the month, and I would like to try it.

Apparently Resmed does not want it sold online before May 31. I know of one online vendor that got their wrist slapped for doing so. That probably explains Johnny's non-comment on the matter so far.

I think I got the last one a particular vendor sold online before said wrist slapping.

And I have been told that it needs to go through licensing in Canada, so it will not go on the market here for a while. Argh!

My DME doesn't actually have it in stock yet, but he had a demo in my size, and it seemed REALLY great. I tried to get him to let me take it home for just one night, but he said he couldn't let it go. According to him, RESMED says it's going to be phasing out the UMFF once the Quattro takes over the market. LMAO!!!

It appears this mask is a big improvement over the UMFF. It seals really good and has a great adjustment for the bridge of the nose, It also seems to be a lot like the Activa.

Based on my experience, the sizing appears to be identical to the UMFF.
This is what that horrible Soyala FF should have been!
I'm told it will be two more weeks. I can hardly wait.......

Great review

Post by jasper » Wed May 16, 2007 10:18 am

Now that's what a review should be like Snoredog! I wish there was a similar user review for all masks; it would certainly make choosing a mask easier.

Right now I have the Activa and love it when I'm not congested. Got a 432 for those congested times, and it's comfortable, but leaves a pretty bad red mark on my noise (and NO adjustable forehead piece - UGH). Still thinking of trying a hybrid, or Quattro or Liberty. Haven't decided yet.

Way to go. You talked about all the IMPORTANT stuff!

Snoredog,

Great review. I'd just add my humble opinion that the Quattro may be better than the CF2 for most people, but not necessarily all. I can't tell yet.

For example, I seem to be getting some leakage around the eyes at any setting I've tried with the knob, and at any strap tightness. I get more facial indentations and baggy eyes with the Quattro than with the CF2. I get the same sort of indentations like I get with the 432. Not that I much care, they go away after I shower, but they matter to some folk.

I've tried the Quattro as loose as an Activa, and as tight as a 431/432, and if I don't strap it down pretty tight, I get leaks at the chin when I turn my head, or sleep on my side. I also can't get my leak rate anywhere near as low as you're getting.

So I wonder, are you wearing the straps looser than with the CF2 or UMFF? Maybe I'm not fitting the thing correctly.

I'll have to say, last night I started on the CF2, then switched to the Quattro after 4.5 hours (out of 8.3 hours total) because of discomfort. I had no apneas all night, and an AHI of 0.5, but more flow limitations and hypopneas with the CF2 than with the Quattro. I felt pretty good in the morning. So that's a mixed and funky test, but the Quattro seems to have won last night. I'm probably going to start with the Quattro tonight, and see what happens.

Thanks for your feedback.

Modifying the Quattro for Dead Space

Post by Lubman » Wed May 16, 2007 8:53 pm

So since some of you actually have used the Quattro, and the reports sound excellent - tell me do you think it is possible to easily modify the mask for non vented use?

For those of us with (prescribed) EERS e.g. dead space, does the elbow and the associated valve look like something that can be stopped up from exhale?

It sounds like the elbow is not quite the same as on the UMFF mask - does it appear to be a different size or does it attach to the Quattro body in a different manner?

I'm trying to decide whether to ask for a Quattro and modify it or just order the standard non vented mask, which is very similar to the UMFF style.

Any observations from those having the mask in hand would be appreciated.

Just to clarify I wouldn't suggest someone normally modify the mask - without sleep tech / MD approval it is not a recommended thing to do.

Lubman
I'm not a medical professional - this is from my own experience.
Machine: ResMed Adapt ASV with EERS
Mask: Mirage NV FF Mask
Humidifier: F&P HC 150
Sleepzone Heated Hose

Some Scotch tape should work fine, the UMFF would be harder to make that happen with.

Again, it should be easy, haven't seen a similar elbow used by Resmed on other masks, some tape over the end of the elbow and removing the silicone flapper should do the trick. I would think you would have to continue to use the whisper swivel/vent if that is what you are using now.

Lubman wrote: It sounds like the elbow is not quite the same as on the UMFF mask - does it appear to be a different size or does it attach to the Quattro body in a different manner?
it attaches with a snap-in vs UMFF C-clip. They are not interchangeable from what I can tell. Gone are the vent slots around the perimeter of the elbow found on the UMFF's elbow.

If it was cheaper I'd order the non-vented version but it is not that hard to modify, like I said some Scotch or shipping tape should do the trick.

The Quattro may work better in your application because it doesn't seem to leak as much as the UMFF and I know that can impact your therapy more than other users.

Leak rate with CF2 and Quattro

Post by cwsanfor » Thu May 17, 2007 4:53 am

Snoredog (and anyone else),

My results last night mirror those of the night before. I used both masks on BiPAP at 15/19.5, got no apneas, but got fewer hypopneas with a higher leak on the Quattro. I reversed the mask order: last night was Quattro, then CF2. I am usually im REM at about 3.5 hours, and I woke up then, dreaming.

So the Quattro is looking even better to me, despite my leak issue. I always fumble around with a new mask. I watched the Quattro DVD twice, used the same fitting technique as you, but I'm obviously getting a lot higher leak than you. However, I'm running a much higher pressure than you, our faces may just be different, and this is limited data. I'll run the oximeter tonight, and see what that says.

I look forward to hearing from Quattro users at higher pressures.

according to the flow chart your leak should be in the 45-50L/m range. At those pressures you are bound to have some leaks, as long as it doesn't become a Large Leak (with solid black tics shown at top of Leak graph) you should be fine.

You can't get much better than a 0.8 AHI in my opinion. Use of the pulse oximeter probably won't register many drops with 0 OA's. The 15cm EPAP floor is probably what is keepiing those at bay. Looks like IPAP is what is taking care of the remaining FL's and HI's.

I would say your sleep is greatly "settled down" as compared to number of events seen before which is what you want to see.

The version 2 CF2 (one with series of tiny square holes as exhaust) also retains more CO2 than other interfaces, so that may be what is helping you out with seeing fewer events also. I'd use the one with the fewest leaks.
