Twilight NP interface just arrived

Post by Hurricane » Tue May 08, 2007 12:01 pm

Just got my Invacare Twilight NP, And I'm anxious to try it tonite. I seem to have it fitting ok, using the large nose piece, tested it laying down, seem fairly leak free, test will be tonight. Was wondering when washing the mask parts, can I just wash the nasal pillow system, or do I have to wash the hose also, or can I skip the hose till maybe once a week. Any tips I could use them. By the way this is the fifth mask I have tried , payed for two, insurance others.

Hi Ed,

Hope the Twilight NP works out well for you. Be sure to check out jcarn's "rubber band trick" in case you need to tweak a little more than the normal adjustments allow. And have an extra "homemade strap" at the ready...again for "just in case."

You've probably already looked over the links that have pictures of the rubber band placement and the use of a homemade strap to cradle the pillows a little better when you toss and turn...

I suppose you're using distilled water in your humidifier. If so, I see no reason to worry about cleaning the connector hose any more often than you want to. For me, that's months.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey Ed,
Good luck tonight! I wash the pillows with Ivory soap, and flush the hose w/ hot water. Be careful, the vent holes can spray!

I'm with RG. I only clean the hose when needed (can you say never?).

I just disconnect the pillows every few days and wash them with hand soap. Just like I'm washing my hands, run hot water through them, and let them dry.

Good luck. Hope you love the Aura as much as we do.

Other than the headgear that's too big, I think the Aura is great. Looking forward to your experiences with it. Maybe with a "man head", the gear will be okay. Also, interested to see how it compares to the Swift (which I couldn't abide).

That's exactly what I do as well.

I had a huge head and just found that all the stuff up by the forehead would get bumped around while I slept and cause irritation to my nares. Once I chopped the headgear off this no longer was a problem at all, and I've been using it as my primary mask for a good while now.

So, if your nares are sore tomorrow, first step would be the rubber band trick.

Hey Blarg,
Ready to give the mask a try, rubber bands on standby if needed, I don't have to worry much about hair issues so thats a plus. Will let you know how I make out.

Did it get smaller?

How'd you make out last night, Ed? Rainout's an issue with this mask, did you have any problems with it?

Hi Cathy,
First night went relativley nice, I used the mask as came from cpap.com, liked the comfort of it, was able to switch from back sleep to side sleep without a great deal of leakage, but did notice at times some, tonite I will try the rubber bands, I have a home made sleeve cover on the hose, and I attached it to a clip on the curtain behind the head board, my cpap machine is on the nite stand so I do have a portion of the hose below the cpap level, and then goes to the next height above the bed, then down to me, didn't have any rainout, but I only have my humidifier on #1 setting.
This mask does appear to have the potential to becoming my favorite, but heh one night ,high hopes already. I am reading the tips on the forum concerning this mask, and believe I can tweak it to where it will work,
Must say its the first mask I have used that waking up I didn't have a sore nose, or blister etc. I have been compliant on cpap since last year, even though not always happy with doing this thing, in my case the alternative is worse. Heh as long as I'm still moaning I know I'm okay.

Will keep in touch.
Ed

No, I hacked the headgear off. Though my subconcious use of past tense there is rather interesting... Perhaps I had a huge head in my posession?

Ed,
Glad your first night went pretty well. It shouldn't take too long to get the bugs worked out so it's your favorite. One of my favorite features is that the vent flow doesn't hit anything--my husband is especially glad for that part too. It is definitely the most comfortable interface I've used.
