Got my gear!

Post by Moby » Mon May 07, 2007 11:31 pm

I bought my gear today.

Doc reckons I need the variable pressure so had to buy the expensive one. They only had one choice, the Resmed AustoSet Spirit (+ humidifier).
I bought two masks, the comfort curve and the swift...Ooh I just checked, it's the Swift II.

The 'tec helping me was the same one who gave me the original sleep study, so that was nice. She was very impressed with the panty liner trick on the ComfortCurve. In fact, I showed her how the Comfort Curve works, I get the impression the tecs aren't taught about it.

So I guess now I must fix my pictures at the bottom of the post.

Congrats and best of luck with your setup!

Most of the RTs I've spoken to don't know much about the different masks. They seem to be taught to push a couple of inexpensive masks and are taught nothing about any of the others.

Amen to that, Brenda
I got lucky this year with the lab I was sent to. They favor the Hybrid. Their theory was that every newcomer was a mouth breather and the Hybrid was the best mask for that. I think everyone should be given a selection of the top 10 masks when the sleep tech comes out to set us up.

If the techs offered 10 mask interface to try, when would we have time to do the study/titration? I offer 3 styles to start and this can take 30 minutes+ to fit and acclimate. The study is to titrate the pressure with a minimal leak and comfortable mask given the limited variety available. I point my patients to this board to help them with the rest of their decisions. I use cpap as well. I understand. But time is limited as well as supplies.

Thanks,

DSM, I'll PM you soon re your kind offer in the other thread

Re the Resmed, the doc had the tecs set it 6 - I think 14.

He stressed the importance of not having leaks, because that makes the machine work blow too much air. I woke up a couple of times last night (towards morning) with a hurricane blowing through a leak because I'd moved around. I feel pretty good though, better than I did with the fixed Cpap.

I haven't got the software yet, though I can take it into the lab for a readout but only at the sleep dr's request (otherwise the lab staff would be doing nothing else I guess).

regards

Di

Except that the doc reckons that Moby'll need variable pressure, and so (s)he won't get to use EPR.

How do you like the Comfort Curve?

Post by gasp » Thu May 10, 2007 12:56 pm

I'm jealous - I've been waiting, and waiting, . . .

I just lit a fire under my DME to get the Oracle HC452 to my sleep center for my titration. We'll see....

Anyway, I see you're using the comfort curve. Love to hear how you like it. And - yeah! Glad you got your gear.

Hi Gasp

Thanks for your good wishes. I hope you get your gear really soon.

I remember the frustrating wait between becoming convinced I had sleep apnoea and getting the rental from the sleep clinic. There are a number of hoops to jump, and queues to wait out.

I did a small thread about comfort curve here viewtopic.php?t=19496&start=0&postdays= ... highlight=

Hope it works. Otherwise if you go to my profile, then through my posts you'll find it.

Swapping the rental one for the new one means I have to customise my new one again. I actually sewed some pads instead of doing the pantyliner thing.

I love that it is so light and comfortable, but the new Swift ll tubing seems lighter than with the last one. The ComfortCurve is much lighter on the face, which is important to me as my nose begins to feel a bit used and abused with the weight of the Swift or the pressure of a nosemask. Tthe downside of the ComfortCurve it needs a lot - *a lot* of fiddling with to get it to sit right. Rested Gal has posted a compilation of ComfortCurve threads somewhere, let us know if you can't find it.

I certainly didn't get the many leaks with my Swift last night, using it pretty much out of the box.

Maybe I'll try using KY round the edge of the comfort curve same as I do with the Swift.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

regards

Di

Blarg,

Clearly we need to go educate that doc
