Hybrid users

There is a new hybrid for sale on one of the auctions and the user says it's imperative the distance between the upper lip and the nose not exceed 1 inch or the hybrid won't work for you. I can't see where that dimension would make any difference. It is the distance from the bottom of the chin to the nose that would seem to be important. What do you think?

Since the chin flap can be cut off and has been by several successful users, the more critical dimension is the distance between the bottom of the nose and center of the closed mouth.

Can you explain. I don't see what bearing the center of the mouth has on anything. It would seem you could move the seal above the lip up whatever you needed as long as it still seals at the chin.

True you can shift the oral piece up to shorten the distance from the base of the pillows to the nares, but then leaks are more likely to occur from the sides of the mouth (at least from my experience … I suppose I have an abnormal face shape though … and it is hard to tell from your avatar pic what your experience with the Hybrid would be like).

Point is we are all correct (including the Ebay seller) in that -- both the chin and upper lip positions are relative to the center of the mouth. For me it is more critical to center the oral cushion onto my mouth, then adjust the pillow height to my nares rather than the other way around … but we are all different aren’t we?

The mask comes with all three cushion sizes and all three pillow sizes, so there are combinations to fit a wide variety of faces. Since the seller made this comment, I am suspicious that some of the sizes are missing from what he is selling. Caveat emptor.

Can't argue the point about us all being different. Is there noticeable pressure on the area above the lip with a hybrid as there is with a traditional nasal mask?

I have only tried one traditional nasal mask (Acclaim 2) and that was enough for me to discover that I am not a good candidate for these mask types because of the pressure they place on the sensitive sinus tissues around my face and nose (causes congestion of my entire nasal cavity system). Anyway, I don't recall there being noticeable pressure on the area above the lip with a hybrid as compared to a traditional nasal mask.

So I'll let someone else who has more experience with both types make the comparison for you.

track,
I use the medium mouth-piece with the large nasal pillows. I would
say I could also wear the large mouth-piece, with either the large or
medium pillows. However, the curvature of the mouth-pieces are
all different, and I cannot maintain a seal with the large mouth-piece.
If you have a long, narrow, face, the Hybrid may not work for you.

A mouth-piece that fits the curvature of your face, may be too small for
your mouth.

I have used the Hybrid since its introduction, and I have had many good nights with it.
The only downside for me is: after, about four hours my
face get moist and it slips around. Currently, I'm on the CL2 + mouth-tape.
When I get fed-up with the CL2, I'll use the Hybrid for a while. I think it's
a good idea to have more than one mask...

If you get a Hybrid, make sure it comes with all six of the interchangeable
parts and the latest headgear (grey inside, black outside).

+ Aussie heated hose.

Track, not only do you have 3 sizes for the mouth cushion, you can cut off the chin flap if your chin is so big that you feel you need to. The mask then has 6 sizes for the mouth. The beauty of this mask is that it should fit everyone with the new headgear. Fit and be comfortable.
