S8"s catch fire?
Resmed stock is falling like a rock.
Bad news coming about their S8's
I have one and I'm returning it no matter what. You know their all bad if their catching fire. I'm not risking it. My S8 is loud for such a little box. It has a very high pitch noise.

Flaming CPAPs!
Well, not exactly. First, it's the power cord, not the unit itself. Second, exactly 7 cords our of over 300,000 have been reported to have sparked. Those cords have "...the potential to ignite material external to the device." Third, there have been NO reports of either patient injury or property damage. None.
I know ResMed has a bad odor amongst us here on the cpaptalk, and I find their pricing policies reprehensible; but let's be fair. They are doing the right thing, offering free replacements of the power cord. They went public, and immediately took steps to remedy the situation, at no small cost to themselves. (Do I detect the faintest whiff of schadenfreude in the air??)

Sorry, but I don't believe that the problem is in the cord. They mention the connector which I believe is the stationary prongs inside the machine into which the cord plugs. The websites specifically mention you may use the machine until you receive a replacement flow generator. A cord does not generate any flow unless you whip it around very fast.

The troublesome part was made by an outside parts supplier, not by Resmed. Resmed knows exactly which machines made when have this possibly defective part. The recall is a voluntary recall.
My S8 Elite is not on the recall list. My S8 Vantage is. I'll get the replacment part for my Vantage or the Vantage replaced, whichever it is that Resmed is doing. But I am NOT parting w/my Elite nor am I going w/out my Vantage! Resmed makes a darn good machine and they are doing their best at great cost to VOLUNTARILY rectify the problem.
Respironics was not so open and quick to notify its buyers of the M series humidifier leak problem. But they did correct it and they did replace the defective tanks when contacted. So are we supposed to condemn all Respironics machines as well?? They also make a very good product.
The only ones who don't make mistakes are those who do nothing.

And as far as Remstars "M"agic and the HH leaks, maybe it was just a automatic fire extinguisher system backup. Jim

I just talked to Resmed. They will be mailing me a new power cord. It is confusing because one report says power connector and the following says flow generator. Just to be safe, my DME supplier is giving me a new power cord (since I don't know which cord belongs to my not-recalled Elite and which belongs to my recalled Vantage) so that I can take my Elite to KY tomorrow and leave the Vantage safely unused at home.
I wonder if they issued the recall and then only after issuing the recall were able to determine that it was the power cord rather than an internal part??Part numbers included in the replacement program are:
33007 (S8 Escape)
33021 (S8 Elite)
33030 (S8 Compact)
33112 (S8 AutoSet Vantage)
Serial number ranges included in the replacement program are:
From - To
20040285613 - 20060269563
20060284896 - 20060285445
20060287568 - 20060294694
20060312361 - 20060312597
20060318692 - 20060319459
20060325074 - 20060327695
20060330588 - 20060331043
Q: How do I locate the device’s part number and serial number?
The 5-digit part number and the 11-digit serial number can be found on the bottom of the device. Before turning your device over, please be sure to unplug the device and detach your humidifier, if you have one.
Both the part number and the serial number are located at the bottom of the name plate under the bar code.
Q: Is there a risk of using oxygen?
Patients should not use supplemental oxygen with an affected device and should immediately contact their home healthcare provider for a replacement.
Q: How do patients receive their new S8 device?
Most patients will receive notification from their medical equipment supplier on how to obtain a new S8 flow generator.
And the reason my DME knew nothing about the recall is because Resmed just mailed out some DME recall notices yesterday and mailed more of them today.

Two calls to ResMed, listening to the recording and speaking with two different real people. indicate that it is a replacement CORD that is being sent, not a "flow generator". If indeed it IS going to be a PAP unit that is sent, that would possibly account for the high quoted cost of the recall.
I guess we'll just have to wait until the "information packets" arrive in the mail.
Incidentally, I found it interesting that both people I spoke with were very interested in finding out where I had heard of the recall. Obviously, their answering system knows about it... "If you are calling about the ResMed S-8 recall, press three"... but their human staff was caught flat footed and had to call back with information later (which they actually DID do in just over an hour).

Was there not a couple of threads a few days ago of folks complaining about the same issue with the M series machines?
Maybe all the power connectors are made in China ... next door to the tainted pet food plant
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
I think you are on to something, DreamStalker!!!!

Snoredog, certainly looks like they mean a new cpap or apap unit. Given the information on their web site and in the official press release, I wonder why the humans at ResMed's offices in Poway are telling callers it's a power cord that will be replaced?
Dreamstalker, maybe the connector or whatever it turns out to be is *made* with tainted pet food?
And has anyone gotten information from cpap.com, if they bought their machines from them? I would certainly hope that ResMed would not keep on-line suppliers out of the replacement loop as part of their new policy of favoring b&m DMEs.
