Two questions: re hose and noise
Two questions: re hose and noise
I have two questions, as the subject line suggests:
1) I have the Aussi Heated Hose, and a comfort-curve mask. The comfort curve has a non-standard coupling to their own, proprietary hose. Since the comfort-curve won't connect to the hose, I'm wondering if there is some third-party product out there that will do the trick?
2) Noise of the machine. My mask is reasonably quiet, but the Spirit autoset makes noise as it ramps pressure up and down. Has anyone had any luck with a soundproofing enclosure?
Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob!
Can't help you with the first question, but might have some help for the second one.
I have read about and suggested to others using a styrofoam cooler to quiet the machine noise, and those that have tried it say it really works. Put a styrofoam cooler upside down over your machine, making sure to leave holes for the hose and air vent, of course. I would also suggest making the cooler large enough so there's extra space inside when it's covering the machine.
I haven't tried it because I've gotten used to the noise now, but it really bothered me at first. I also use a sound conditioner (white noise) that blocks out the machine noise. Sounds weird to have one noise blocking another noise, I guess, but the sound conditioner is a constant even noise, whereas the machine noise (at least on C-flex) is constantly changing, up and down, etc.
Hope this helps!
Pam

I looked around the internet but was unable to find a coupler or 3rd party hose anywhere. I see that cpap.com sells a Snuggle Hose that's designed specifically for the Comfort Curve. That wouldn't solve your Aussie hose problem but it would provide some insulation for the Comfort Curve hose that you have.
We normally have a fan running in our bedroom and that pretty well drowns out the noise from my Remstar Pro 2 CPAP.

OCO

The tv stays on until the timer runs out. You hear the tv instead of the machine!

Here is the solution that one xPAPer from Finland devised for noise abatement:

CPAP Noise
This topic sure illustrates the difference in perception of outside stimuli by different people. For me (and also my wife) the noise of my CPAP on EPR is so hypnotic that it puts me to sleep in a very few minutes.
It is so soothing to me that I can't even think constructively as I once did before going to sleep. My mind just goes into "Yoga" mode and the noise is equivalent to the "Ohmmm, Mani, Padme, Hummm" or whatever mental chant one would use for relaxation.
It's similar to me (and my wife) to being on the seashore with the sea sounds in the background.
