First night on Soyala FF mask

Post by shippy » Sat Feb 24, 2007 9:20 am

Last nights numbers on Soyala FF mask (first night)

Time under mask 7.5 Hours

Pressure 18cm
C-Flex setting 3
Humidifier setting 3

OA 0.7

H 0.3

AHI 0.9

Large Leaks 24.0 mins.
5.3% of night
Avg. Leak 57.63

I can not say i have ever gotten numbers like that with my Ultra Mirage FF (very impressive results) or any other mask i have tried. Tore up my nose a little bit, will try putting a bandaid over nose bridge tonight. Leak numbers a bit high (any mask is going to leak at 18cm's) but i can't argue with the results.

Well Dale, seeing you were the only one to reply to my Soyala review, the least I could do is reply to yours, seeing it's gone un-replied to, in 12 hours!
Anyway...having said that, I'm glad your mask is working good, so far.

I've found that it's probably a good idea to wait a few days, or a week(or more) to make a fair assessment of a new mask. The reason I know is that I've been fooled before. I don't want to discourage you in any way, but my first night with the Soyala FF was decent also, except for that nose attack it made.
Unfortunately, the nose problem got worse, and worse, and I've learned to quit for a while when that happens.
Only two masks out of quite a few, were great for me the first night- only to wind up even greater. Those masks were the Activa and the Ultra Mirage Full Face.
Sometimes you just don't know until you just keep at it.
I'll go back to the SFF sometime in the near future, but lately I've been having really great sleep with my old favorite, the Activa.

Best of luck to you!
-Vader

Vader and Shippy, I've been reading your reviews with interest because I still need to purchase a full face mask for cold emergencies.

I'm sure I'm not the only one interested.

Not too much I can say, other than thanks for being our "guinea pigs", and I hope the mask works for you.

Thanks for the reviews.

Not too bad on my nose, but oh my aching forehead. Also some discomfort between my lower lip and chin. I'm back to my UM FF mask. I haved returned to the the UM FF mask each time after trying:
HC431
HC432 (not bad)
Hybrid (old headgear useless, not worth investment in new headgear)
Hans Rudolf FF Mask (bought new headgear, Sensa-Seal) to no avail
Soyala FF (quiet but painful)

I will echo what others have said....my aching nose. I last about 2 hours and then I wake up with a sore nose and red marks on it. Each night it has gotten more sore. The last three nights I started with the soyala FF mask and never made it to the morning....switching in the night to the more comfortable but more leak prone UMFF.
Today I picked up some padding for the nose but I doubt that will help. The more I wear the soyala the more comfortable the UMFF seems.

Vader lol !!!!

Yeah i was getting bumbed out when nobody replied for 12 HOURS hope the numbers stay good, will see what happens tonight. The only problem so far is the sore nose. When i first started with the Ultra Mirage my nose was worse than last nights with the Soyala, my nose got used to it eventually, as they say NO PAIN NO GAIN i guess.

for your pressure those are really good numbers, even the leak isn't all that bad.

How is yours in the nosebridge area (red mark, no red mark, leak, non-leak)? And what size are you using?

night two on Soyala FF mask

Post by shippy » Sun Feb 25, 2007 9:41 am

Medium sized Soyala FF mask

Last nights data

8.5 hours under mask
Pressure 18cm
C-Flex setting 3
Humidifier setting 3

OA 1.8

H 1.2

AHI 3.0

Large Leak 0.0 mins.

Avg. Leak 55.56

AHI not as good as first night but stiil below 5.0 which is o.k. Wore a bandaid over nose bridge last night, nose is in pretty good shape this morning. Tightened up the straps pretty tight last night, which causes another problem. The headpiece cushion is not as wide or soft as my Ultra Mirage FF and it feels like its drilling a hole in my forehead, very uncomfortable, may need to investigate something like pad-a-cheeks for this problem. Had to play with the headpiece adjustment a while last night until it felt better, the mask has about six different settings for the headpiece, and none of them are quite right in my case anyway. One other complaint is the velcro staps are so sticky they are hard to pull apart. Will keep using this mask for now as the numbers are good. Slept good last night and the first night although i felt like i was getting the drowsy's yesterday afternoon yawning a lot. I think though that this is a side effect of my BP med which my Dr. said to take at night to cut down the side effect (drowsiness) during the day.

LOL

Perfectly stated. I last wore mine 3 days ago and I still have redness and discomfort where it rested on my forehead. Please let us know if you find a solution to the forehead problem.

Anyone else have a problem with the bottom of the mask pressing against your lower gums (between lower lip and chin)? Feels like it's pushing my bottom teeth into my mouth. Does anyone test these things before release?

I have placed a piece of micro fleece under the forehead rest. It really helped. No red marks this morning and much more comfortable.

My problem with this mask has been the sides of my nose. This morning the were very red a broken out with a half dozen pimple like things on each side. Anybody got a solution to that??

Sleepless -- could it be the humidity level causing the pimples? It might affect this mask when it doesn't other masks.

Could a round foam makeup applicator be taped on the mask where it hurts the nose? It would cushion the nose, but might make it leak more too.

Hmmmm, since surgery in December, I have had the humidity turned way up. I think I will turn it down this tonight and see if that does the trick. Thanks!!

Had my best night with the soyala FF. My leak rate was only .35L/sec or 18L/min at pressure of 10-13 for 7.5 hours. I have adjusted the mask so it doesn't leak yet does not hurt the base of the nose bridge.

I tried the Satanic Soyala ff again last night.
It leaked like crazy, and the only way to stop it was to really tighten it, and it was uncomfortable.

My Pad-a-cheek modification GREATLY helped with the forehead pain and irritation. I also had hardly any bridge irritation with the Nexcare tape.

This afternoon I tried an Ultra Mirage headgear on it, and I didn't get any leaks, but tonight will be the big test to see if it's comfortable and lasts all night.
