They have kept a tight lid on this release and all we have right now are a few pictures. Fortunately for us, Justin Crout, Product Manager of the Respironics Patient Interface Division, has agreed to an Interview!

Looks to me like it's functionality will depend on how well the cheek pad fit the user. In my case it looks as though it would rest on the meaty part of my cheeks and not my cheek bones. This could potentialy allow too much movement in the nasal seal. I'm not sure yet if any of the questions I have would be answerable by Mr. Crout, but I'll see if I can fashion them in such a way that he can comment.

Great Scoop! I'm glad to see Respironics is attempting some much needed innovation in it's interface line.

Definitely different! My one question would be the irritability factor of the nasal opening. It appears to come over the tip of the nose. And it looks like the opening is rather sharply edged, not curved. I'm wondering if this might create a pressure sore around the nose?
Since most people have different face sizes, I would think in order to properly position the cheek pads this would have to come in different sizes.

Looking at the top pic it looks like those little holes in the bottom of the nasal interface might be them....could make for a cold lower lip or chapped lips huh?

Is this interface compatible with the Respironics BiLevel and REMstar Auto machines (both with and without C-Flex)? Is the interface compatible with other brand AutoPAP and BiLevel machines as well?

Is the headgear adjustable only at the sides, or at another part of the headgear? I too am looking for exhalation ports. Do the "cheek" pads adjust-possibly slide-to adjust to ones facial features? What parts will be available as replacements by themselves? What about working with auto adjusting cpaps-any pressure problems??

At first glance reminds me of the Monarch Mini Mask except for the dual tubing.

Do the cheek pads rotate independant of the nose piece?

Does nose piece fit over the end of your nose?

Does the nose piece rotate independant of the blue fixture?

Does the nose piece come in different sizes?

What is nature of the way the nose piece seals around the nose?

Does the nose piece require significant pressure on the nose to seal?

Does the nose piece exhaust up or down?

Is the rear halo of the headgear stiffened in any way?

Is there a length adjustment in the lower strap of the rear halo or just the upper strap?

Do the elbows at small hoses rotate freely or are they semi-fixed?

ohhhhkayyyy, if you expect the (ahem) Product Manager of the Respironics Patient Interface Division to answer THAT one with anything less than an enthusiastic TEN ( I know you and the fun-luvin' Res Rep Guest had tongue firmly in cheek..heheh), I've got another question with a LOT of numbers in it that I'd like to see posed to the manager:

Speaking of one to ten, did you try your final design out on at least ten experienced cpap users who each have had at least one year of full compliance on cpap, and ask them wear it for at least two weeks of consecutive nights, at least five consecutive hours each night?

Seriously, what kind of user base did you test this interface on - exactly how many users and exactly how long did each of them wear it? How many hours during how many nights did each tester in the user base wear it?
