am I getting accustomed to pressure

Post by Big MIke » Tue Jan 16, 2007 12:16 pm

I've been on cpap for about two weeks now. I don't use the ramp and my pressure is 12. I have the activa mask. My question is I don't fell the pressure when have it on like I use to. Do you get use to it after awhile. It just feels like I am breathing normal. But if I take the mask off it sounds like a wind storm.

My pressure is 12 cm too. It felt like I was trying to push the genie back in the bottle in the beginning but now I hardly notice the pressure and in the morning, I frequently wonder if the machine is still working at all.

I noticed this after the first month or so. Typically I still notice it when I first turn the mask on but when I wake up in the morning, I don't feel any of the pressure and I wonder if I turned the machine off. Nope, I just lift the mask and hear the air!

yup congrats you've become accustomed to it! thats a good sign.. although when u wake up it can be a bit panicky... i know i wake up sometimes and am like what the hell is this damn thing even on? then pull the mask out away from face and wooosh instant air conditioning.. Which can be useful if you fall asleep with a ton of covers on and wake up burning up hot.. pull the mask away and cool yourself off a bit... well for me cuz i never turn the heated humidifier on.. and then go on with your sleeping hehe..

Got it in one. The sleep centre tech told me I would get used to it very quickly and he was right. Now I also wonder if the machine is on because you get used to the pressure. (But if it's not on you feel like you're suffocating).
