Chin Straps

Post by S-Dubya » Thu Jan 11, 2007 12:22 pm

I recently switched from the Swift to the Activa and I have been THRILLED with the Activa. By far the most comfortable, leak-free mask I have ever used. Thanks to everyone here who suggested it.

However (there's always a caveat, isn't there?), with the Swift and now with the Activa I have issues with my chin strap. Mine is made by Tiara and is a single strap with a wide spot with a hole in it at the chin area. I find it slips forward or backward off my head too easily. Anyone have a favorite chin strap they would care to recommend? Someone mentioned the "Ruby" chin strap on here recently, anyone have success with it?

I wouldn't mind alternatives to the chin strap as well. I have thought about taping my mouth, but I would have to shave my goatee and I would prefer not to.

Tried two different chin straps, both was still able to mouth breath, followed advice on others posts which said training tongue to rest on roof of mouth, tried this and in a weeks time good bye chin straps, worth a try, and one less ritual.

I've seen mentioned poli-grip strips... not sure how they work though

Dubya,

I have a goatee and I tape every night. The trick to removing the tape is to pull it downwards. I have no issues whatsoever doing this. I've been doing this for a good three or four months now. If you do decide to tape, might I recommend this tape. I bought this about two months ago and I've only gone through 1 1/2 rolls so far.

Hey Jack-
are you still happy with your bipap? No more aerophagia?
I was following a previous thread where you were complaining about aerophagia and that you got a bipap and it helped.
I too have been struggling with aerophagia and I'm going to be getting my new bipap auto (M series) with biflex within a couple of weeks. I'm hoping that it will help my aerophagia and GERD (so that I can go off of GERD meds).
Just wondering if you were still happy with the bipap (and sorry to everyone else for attempting to hijack this thread).

It was probably me who mentioned the Ruby Chinstrap.
I have found it to be very effective when used with the Activa, and recently I've been using the Ruby with the Soyala mask with great success.

The size on the Ruby is not adjustable, so make sure you get the right size.

As much as I like the aforementioned masks and chinstrap, I would prefer a "comfortable" full face mask. I can't wait for Somnotech's new full face mask to be available, and a Somnotech spokesperson told me that it should be out next month. Yeee-haw!

W:Give the cpap.com Deluxe Chinstrap a try. Yes, it is wide and white and pretty ugly - but it gets the job done. I can wear this strap looser than all the others, and it supports my chin and my mouth completely. The picture on cpap.com looks like this strap would strangle someone, but for me it doesn't constrict my breathing at all. It'spretty cheap too.

You can always try using old tights/pantyhose and tie it around your head like I do.Rested Gal came up with this idea and it works great for me.
Chin straps in my opinion don't work, and I own several of them.
