CPAP-PRO aka "NO-MASK" - My experience therewith

Post by rustynail » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:41 am

Hi! Since I am receiving various requests for information regarding my usage of the CPAP-PRO/NO-MASK, and tooly was so kind as to give me precise instructions of how to get a link into a posting.... here goes. In answer to yesterday's questions(same have been asked by various persons):
Do you know if insurance companys help pay for the cpap pro? Do DME's carry it? Or is it web purchase only?

Thanks
Sorry, I can not answer this, you must check with your insurance...
Sorry again, you must check with your or various DME's.

My original (very first!) posting on this site is the following (I was searching for answers too and then described my first experience with it):

I would like to add to this that I can not use this device when I have a bad cold or influenza, in these situations I always revert to my comfort-gel. I have also found that KY-Jelly is the answer for me for gettiing and maintaining a good seal, no leaks, no irritation.

For any further questions or input from others who have also tried this device.... please hit the 'Post Reply' button and we'll have some fun.

Tricia: who finds it hard to believe that she admits (in writing no less) to putting KY-Jelly up her nose!!

I bought a CPAP Pro last spring and liked the concept. Unfortunately when making the mold for my mouth, I scalded my mouth. The tubes that go to your nose are made out of a soft plastic which started cracking and leaking air. They give you an extra set but after two month, that one had a crack in it also. At this point I started using electrical tape to stop the air from leaking because I didn't want to pay for the tube replacements at $35 a pop. The tubes kept cracking over and over and eventually I had both tubes rolled from top to bottom in electrical tape. My insurance wouldn't cover the price of the mask, so eventually I bought a different type and basically works the same way, in through the nostrils with no problems.

I tried a similiar product, and it didn't work for me. The reason is that there are a small % of us that absolutely sleep with our mouths OPEN !! And if you are one of the few like us, who sleep with your mouths open, no matter what, then, this type of system will not work. It only works if you are a person who always sleeps with your mouth closed, unless of course, you have a cold or something. I do like the concept though, and wish it would have woked for me. But, being an "open mouth sleeper", I am cursed with the full faced mask. The full face mask does work for me, but I have only been able to sleep ALL night with it a couple of times. I seem to always end up taking off the mask when it starts leaking, or whatever, and I throw it off in frustration. But the benefits of the full face mask, even if I only make it a few hours at night before taking it off, are still beneficial, and help me get at least a few hours of good sleep.

I checked the nomask.com website, and it appears it comes in only one size nasal pillows. Is it about comparable to a medium, or what?

Hi...

I've been using the CPAP-PRO for a little over a month now. This is my 6th mask and, so far, it has worked really well for me. (Woo hoo!!)

I'm a side sleeper & sleep with my mouth open. I couldn't find a mask that didn't slip off and wake me up constantly through the night with the air escaping. In addition, I have very sensitive skin and no matter what I used, the masks irritated my face leaving a rash. Plus, I was getting broken capillaries on my skin on top of the irritation! (Most attractive... )

Anyhoo, I had my yearly overnight sleep study and my doctor was really impressed with the results with the CPAP-PRO! But the best thing for me is that I don't dread going to bed anymore! I wake up and actually feel refreshed for a change and haven't needed one nap, which is unbelievable for me!!

But the downside is the price: $179. and that some insurances won't cover it. I count my blessings that mine does...

P.S.--> It does come with different-sized nasal pillows-BUT you have to specifically request them. The one it comes with automatically, I'd compare to Medium-but they also come in Small & Large sizes.

P.P.S.--> I do still have to use a chin strap because of my mouth breathing but that's no biggie...

As long as this old thread is back, we can point out that the newest (similar) product the Tap Pap,
can be molded (and re-molded) while comfortably warm.
