Just got new Comforlite 2

Post by DerekB » Tue Oct 24, 2006 3:32 pm

Hey its been over 6 months now and I was able to get a new mask. I've heard so many good things here about the Comfortlite 2 so that's what I ordered. I called my DME and got her voice mail so I left a message that I wanted to order the CL2. An hour later she called back and said she had it in stock so I went and picked it up. Excited to give it a try. I'll let you know how it goes.

Note: I called my insurance provider and asked if I could order it from cpap.com and they said they are not on their provider list so I had to order from the DME on their provider list. Too bad cause it is about $72 more than the price on cpap.com. No wonder insurance rates are so high. They waste so much money.

Ah, my beloved CL2...I love this mask, but unfortunately it does not love me during the cold nights...lol. I can't wait to use it again.

CL 2--It is a good thing for many of us.

You may want to check for the CL 2 Fixes if you are having any problems.

After reading about all your preferences, good and bad fits, deconstructions and add ons I thought I'd give the CL2 a try. I got the CL 2 last week after having to go in for a fitting. The DME I work with are really not all that knowledgeable. The mask sat so far down on my forehead I couldn't see anything. She told me that was "normal". The more questions I asked the more confused she got. Her idea of a fitting was slap it on my face, turn on the Cpap on (I swear the pressure was 20) and proceeded to ask me how does it fit? I couldn't talk with the pressure blowing my face up, couldn't see the machine to shut it off finally took it off my head and asked if she ever had this on herself. Her answer was no. Someone is lacking in training here. I told her I would take the mask but it had nothing to do with her "salesmanship" I just figured I'd have more luck on my own at home. I'm pretty sure the this mask shouldn't cover up my eyes. Once I work out the proper fit I hope it works.

If anyone can post a good link to fitting this mask I will be grateful.

ROTFL!!!! I can't see anything either, I'm laughing so hard.

That was a funny account of your experience M T H ! Sad, though, to think of what happens to people who have not found their way to a message board like this, and who fall into the "mask fitting" hands of such a clueless DME employee. Of course, if the cpap user has not found a message board, they've probably never heard of the CL2 and would receive a very basic traditional nasal mask. Not that they'd be "fitted" any better even then.

Respironics are very good a giving mask fitting instructions on their sites.

And their links to masks are usually {maskname}.respironics.com (where maskname, is what you're looking for).

So you want http://comfortlite2.respironics.com

And the fitting instruction are here - http://comfortlite2.respironics.com/Fitting.asp with an interactive garphic.

The fitting guide that comes with the mask is quite good. Make sure to fit it LYING DOWN!!!! Every night I put my CL2 on sitting up, and feel it slipping down toward my mouth. But the second I lie down, it settles into its appropriate place snug against my nose. It's no wonder the mask was down over your eyes at that stu--- DME's. It has to be fitted lying down, even more than other masks as the weight of the hose is a bit more significant and pulls the mask upward when you lie down.

GOOD LUCK!
Tell us how it is going,

Why in the world would you want to order it "online?" I guess your DME should just absorb the cost of that person who waited on you, worked with you, the cost of keeping the lights on for you, etc. It's called business.

Well after two nights sleep with the CL2 I am very happy. I seals great with no leaks (using the nasal pillows). I really like the hose over the head much better that the hose coming off the mask. That always resulted in the mask being pulled to the side. Only negative is I do have sore nares. Nothing too bad but just a little tender in the morning. Will this go away? Any suggestions on how to help this?

Guest14455: Does the online company have any employees? Do they have to keep the lights on? I would think so and yet they still can stay in business without charging double. You're right, it is business. I just wish my insurance company would give me the choice.

I think most of us who use nasal pillows on a regular basis, also use some
type of "balm" to replace the oils that are lost to the interface. List includes:
ChapSitk, Bag Balm, KY Jelly, Ayr Gel, and lots of others.

I'm sure others will chime in with their favorites.

+ Aussie heated hose.

NyNurse has had problems with rainout. I think it was that phenomenon to which she is referring.

I usually use the Breeze but it broke on me last night. I pulled out my CL2 which I purchased this summer but found too hot. With the cooler weather I was able to use it last night. When I first laid down, the weight of the hose pulled the mask out of alignment anytime I moved. The swivel part on my CL2 is stiff and doesn't move freely. I remembered receiving an elbow swivel part with my Aussie heated hose and used that to connect the hose to the mask. It worked great. The elbow swivel moved easily and I wasn't constantly readjusting the mask. I didn't have that "drag" when I moved. I have my auto on a low shelf on a table next to the bed. The hose is routed through a piece of pvc pipe which is tied to the bedpost with a leather shoestring. This allows the hose to move more easily when I move. I don't know if this elbow swivel is available anywhere else. I would like to get a couple of spares.

That's why I cut off the top-of-head elbow and added a swivel connector hose (the one for an Activa or a Vista) up there. Made it much lighter.
