New Resmed Move Makes Buying Even Harder

Post by mkpch737 » Tue Oct 17, 2006 7:23 am

Found this on a RIP (Resmed Internet Provider) easycpap.com website:

"As a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider we are required to obtain a prescription for the purchase of ResMed machines, humidifiers, masks, mask cushions, and headgear. The requirement of a prescription for items other than machines applies only to products manufacturered by ResMed. Once we have your prescription on file you can order any ResMed items without resending a prescription."

So now we must fax an Rx just to get a Resmed headgear? Resmed, we are getting to know you all too well.

It should be clear to patients and RIPs as well that Resmed is doing what they can to decrease Internet sales while taking advantage of the free advertising it provides. IMHO the RIPs are playing into a fool's game. They are willingly enslaved and strangled by this tyranny. The RIPs need to get a backbone.

It is interesting to note that the policies Resmed is unilaterally applying to Internet sites are NOT applied to Resmed supplied DMEs. There have been no law changes. Resmed's competitors have not changed their policy. There has not been any reports of patients being harmed by a headgear or the wickedly dangerous mask cushion.

Some websites are opposing Resmed and undercutting the Resmed price fixing scheme.. I will buy from them, but NEVER, ever will I buy a Resmed product. I can not sleep with one who is working so hard to become my enemy.

Brick and Mortar DME companies have always been required to obtain a prescription for masks and headgear and any other supplies.

I wonder when our friends in Washington will pick up ResMed's cause.
If it keeps going like this, we won't be able to play online poker, or own
handguns. Oh, wait, big brother is already attacking these rights. Where will
it end?

What a crock! We live in a country where the government is a big supporter
of gaming, as long as its taxed, but play the "its morally bad card" if its not taxed.

It has always been a rule that any respiratory supplies require a script before they can be dispensed. If you look at the insert in any mask or headgar it states, "US Federal Law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician"(This was taken from a Respironics headgear package, but they are in any equipment) I cannot figure out how internet sites are able to sell without a script.

Not from my experience. I never had an Rx for masks or supplies and had no issue with Apria supplying them. My Rx is ONLY fopr a APAP machine. No mention of mask or supplies.

Who, in their right mind, would want to wear this damned stuff if they didn't HAVE to, anyway???
Somehow I doubt that it'll ever become a new "fashion trend".....

It seems logical that the prescription which we all have for a cpap machine would also cover the necessary accoutrements to effectively use the machine. If not, then I guess I would have to duct tape the machine to my face to get treatment. I can see it now, thousands of cpap users with a bald stripe or stripes around their head where the duct tape ripped the hair out.

I use a resmed mask and it works best for me, so I will continue using it, but they are truly idiots.

In their infinite wisdom, Resmed has decided to fight the most powerful tide in human history. The Internet is giving people more and better information so that they can more easily make the best buying decisions.

By trying to perpetuate monopolistic practices, Resmed will alienate their customer base......not immediately....but over time. The herd of buyers will simply gravitate toward those vendors who understand the power of a market that allows choice....and lower prices.

They (Resmed) will hang themselves....and ultimately lose the company....because buyers will abandon them. This process won't require any government intervention (it's already too busy helping the doctors perpetuate their monopoly on health care). "Time" will take care of the matter. People will see that Resmed no longer offers good value.

Question: How many posters to this thread work for cpap.com?

There has been some false information posted on this thread.

Fact: Resmed UM/UMII Cushion - STD Product Code 16556 has NO reference to physicians, prescription, or law on or in it.

Fact: Mirage Activa Headgear Assembly Product Code 60114 has NO reference to physicians, prescriptions, or law on or in it.

I don't work for Cpap or any other supplier of pap supplies or even any medical service. As a matter of fact, I don't even work and am retired from construction. I do use a Bipap Auto (Respironics). I also have a Resmed nasal mask. When replaced, it will not be a Resmed. I assume my DME got prescriptions from my doctor when they first brought my obsolete Bipap Duet out. (They were discontinued and the DME asked $3400 for me to purchase after rental). I guess they got a prescription for the nasal mask too. I have also purchased one from Cpap since with no Rx. (Unless they counted my Bipap Rx as one?) I believe Resmed would have a hard time now if they went back to previous pricing. Sales pricing is controlled by price and demand on many items. With their Internet pricing, their demand will drop. End users look for Quality and Price when purchasing. Resmed's quality is not better than others just more expensive. They best have a choke hold on DME's because they have alienated the Internet purchasers with their pricing. I guess that is what they want to do? I hope the DME's fit up their keisters.
