EncorePro and different machine

Post by cwsanfor » Tue Sep 19, 2006 4:30 am

If you are changing from, say, an APAP to a BiPAP, do you (1) set up a new patient or (2) just change the machine type and continue using the same database and patient? Thanks.

I don't think the software really cares.

When I switched from CPAP to APAP and back again, it made for some weird looking charts for about a week, but other than that, it didn't really affect anything.
If you want to start a "New Chapter", you could set yourself up as a different patient and see what happens. You could always delete your download from your current patient name if you don't like the looks of it and THEN set yourself up as a different patient. It's pretty versatile that way.

Best wishes,

Den

Encore Pro doesn't care, but you have to use the correct version, If you are using the "M"agic or the new Auto Bi-PAP, you will need version 1.6i Jim

I think I'd prefer to keep a single file, but I noticed that when I just switched from APAP to CPAP for a night I got "weird" charts. I would rather start a new file than have several days of weird or untrustworthy data.

But from what I hear Den and Goof saying, I can just change the machine type on the data card, load new data, and it will automagically populate the fields appropriate to the BiPAP, and MyEncore will also pick up on the additional plots, yes?

I looked around the file structure to see if EncorePro installed fields (or tuples or whatever if you are Codd-enabled) for the BiPAP, but could not make heads or tails of it.

Do you have an extra Smartcard?
I don't think you should have to change anything (like machine type) as it doesn't seem to matter.....it's just "data".....the software had fields for it.
If you wanted to set yourself up as another patient to download your new data to, you could do that. If you do that, you might want to re-format (set up) your old card or start with a new blank card, because it'll probably download whatever data is still on your existing card......don't know......never done that.

If you just transfer your existing card to the new machine and keep it all in your current file, it will retain the continuity.....but may look a little weird on the reports for awhile.....but that shouldn't cause any problems, I wouldn't think.

You call......

I would just like to say that "not all Smart Cards are created equal". Why? I have no idea.

But on the first night of my 6 week trip, I plugged my older Remstar auto in and it started beeping. Naturally I thought " Oh Lord, I don't need problems". I had taken the Smart Card from my newer Remstar Auto with cflex (which I left at home) thinking I would just use one card and have continuous data.

Well, for some reason, the older unit would not work with the newer card. I ended up taking the card out and putting the old card in. Then everything was fine.

It wasn't a big deal, but go figure. I was just tickled that I got it resolved without having problems with the machine during the trip.

There is a difference in smart cards, I just use the one that came with each machine, that keeps them happy. Jim

I've got a couple of backup cards, and EncorePro 1.622.

I think I'll not erase the card, start a new patient, and also add the data to my current patient, and see which I prefer.

Thanks all.

When I was doing tests on Respironics machines
(Auto w/cflex, Bipap Pro 2, Bipap S/T) I created a seperate user account for each type (i.e. DSM-Auto DSM-BipapP2, DSM-BipapST) & that has worked well and allows me to keep the different types of data seperate. They all show quite different info.

Cheers
