Breeze Poll

Post by krousseau » Sun Sep 17, 2006 5:43 pm

There will be 4 concurrent polls on different pillow interfaces. This is an effort to see if the chances of choosing a successful pillow interface can be improved. Please add any comments you have about the use of this interface after voting.
We will continue this poll for as long as it takes to get 25 votes unless that takes an unreasonably long time.

I answered "Failure", although it's probably not a fair answer, inasmuch as I also failed with an Activa, a Full Face mask the name of which I can't come up with at the moment (ResMed brand), and the Swift.

So essentially it's not so much that the breeze failed me as that, much like cancer is innate to white lab mice, failure is innate to me.

Still, I can't resist a good polling (and c'mon, who can?), so I answered anyway.

Liam, poll-ish.

Breeze worked well for me, for over a year, with (of course!) the addition of a homemade strap. For the past year or more, my old favorite has been supplanted by my current longtime (year or more) favorite, Aeiomed's "Headrest" (Aura) and close second favorite, Respironics ComfortLite 2. Homemade straps and modifications to both those make them extremely comfortable for me to wear.

After trying out a few different masks the Breeze has been the one for several months now. As a side sleeper I did have to do a little lab ratting as I've posted before. (zip ties, glue, & tubing)

Breeze failed for me for the same reason that the Swift failed for me--I couldn't get my mouthleaks under control with it not even with mouth taping or polygrip.
I found the Swift more comfortable than the Breeze--didn't like that hard plenum thingy. Although overall the Breeze was less leaky than the Swift and I liked the option of being able to have a different pillow size in each nostril.
However, the only mask that has worked to get my mouthleaks under control so far has been the Hybrid.

I just realized, I was confusing the Breeze with the Aura.

I tried both Breeze and (dis-)ComfortLite each for one night and found them to be supremely uncomfortable.

SO my comments above apply to the aura, not the breeze.

Liam, giving off a completely undeserved aura of competance.

Breeze Experience

Post by kteague » Sun Sep 17, 2006 7:37 pm

Wow, just looking at the replies thusfar, a poll result may not accurately reflect the product's quality. Maybe another category of "Failed but not due to equipment" or "succeeded with revisions" would help clarify. Liam's personal aversion to being masked and airhosed is across the board. Mary B's mouth breathing makes any nasal interface not a 1-step solution. I had to supplement the headgear's straps for stabilization, but the pillows work fine. Does any alteration qualify as failure? I am not the most compliant user, but I can't blame it on the mask. I guess what the poll's end result will be is who was able to use it and who wasn't.

That is correct. The survey(s) are NOT intended to determine quality or which nasal pillow interface is best ... but as you correctly commented ... to determine the likelyhood of someone being able to make the particular interface work for them.

Hopefully, the added comments will give prospective interface seekers an idea of what it may take to make it work or why it may not work for them.

Image for the Breeze with the large pillows as it is my all time favorite interface. This is with no modification of any kind. In my 2 years I have tried: the Comfort Select Nasal Mask, the Nasal Aire Cannula, the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask, the Swift, the Aura and the new Hybrid. I always return to the Breeze. It is very compatible for me with being a side sleeper and I also like the freedom of nothing touching my face to leave marks on the bridge of my nose or the sides of my face. I do wish the plastic piece that holds the pillows was designed without the ultra thin mold seams that tend to develop pin hole size leaks with time. I do plan to try the Comfort 2 Combo later as this one looks akin to the Breeze and if it would work as well for me it would be nice to have a trade-off occasionally.

On a scale of one to four it would be a four but I do own one and use it.

What direction does the scale go-is 4 best or worst-but you do use it.

I think I have found a success! I will refrain from voting however for another couple of weeks.

I got my Breeze yesterday after having it backordered for almost 3 weeks.

I could not resist an attempt at modifying it (removed the headgear cradle assembly and added a Comfort series forehead support) ... and then could not resist trying it out last night.

Finally, I was able to sleep on either side and all positions in between … Freeeeedommmmmm!

… and I got the best numbers yet since I began collecting data 8 weeks ago.

Leak = 0.0
AHI = 1.2
AI = 0.0

Looks very promising …

I’ll post some documentation once I get it tweaked to perfection along with pictures … maybe 2 or 3 weeks.

The Breeze was my first mask, but try as I might, I could not adjust it for a good fit. If I had found this site earlier, some of the modifications might have helped. I do have a problem, however, with any mask that has pillows. My nose just does not like them.
